HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! – Psalm 29:2 Devotional

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!

Psalm 29:2 – Devotional

Psalm 29:2

“Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”

There have been times in my life when I have worked in dirt and grime. By the time I had finished my work it seemed that I had been coated with the filth. I could hardly wait to take a shower and clean myself up. In this sin sick world we often need to come near God’s cleansing shower and experience His holiness.

Reginald Heber was born on April 21, 1783 in Cheshire, England, to a heritage of wealth and culture. By the age of five, he had read the Bible so thoroughly that he could give chapter and verse for many chance quotations.

He composed many hymns, but served his entire life without seeing them published. It was only after his death that as many as 57 of his hymns were recognized. It was to the Lord that he dedicated his works. Such is the case with this week’s hymn, Holy, Holy, Holy!

. . . . . . . .

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! tho’ the darkness hide Thee
Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name, in earth and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

COME NEAR TO GOD! – James 4:8 Devotional

COME NEAR TO GOD!

James 4:8 – Devotional

James 4:8

“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

If You Knew Suzie was a popular song in the 1920’s and 30’s. One line from that song, is spiritually revealing: She goes to church each Sunday, to sing and praise the Lord; but then come Monday, she’s as busy as a Ford.

Sadly the pattern of many so-called Christians is to act spiritual or righteous when around “church” people, but behave like the world the rest of the time. We deceive ourselves into thinking that we can compartmentalize our lives. It’s as if we call a “time out” to do our carnal thing, and then at our convenience return to being “nice.” God hates such double-minded behavior.

Sin is sin and God hates sin. We are to confess our sin before Him and allow Him to bring forgiveness and cleansing. Then we are to turn from our former ways and follow Him. This is the only way to get rid of the double-mindedness that plagues the church of Jesus Christ.

When we resist the devil, James says he will flee from us. We resist the devil by submitting to and focusing on God! Let God deal with the devil!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S TIMING IS PERFECT! – Ecclesiastes 3:1 Devotional

GOD’S TIMING IS PERFECT!

Ecclesiastes 3:1 – Devotional

Ecclesiastes 3:1

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.

Schedules are extremely important. The world of business, military, and public transportation, relies on accurate schedules. I even have an application on my computer that alerts me to the passes of the International Space Station (the ISS), as it silently glides silently across the heavens over 200 miles above.

Over the years I have viewed the ISS hundreds of times as it passes overhead. Some of these passes occur during the dark hours so it is possible to see the Space Station as a very bright star. In some instances the Station passes into the earth’s shadow and seems to disappear.

Day after day, I know that the ISS makes its way around the earth. It may be cloudy or the sun may prevent our viewing of it as it passes over head, but I always know that it is right on time.

It may often seem that the Lord is late in answering our prayers. We focus on our own desires rather than waiting on the Lord to bring about His will. At all times we need to remind ourselves that God’s timing is perfect and the Lord is always RIGHT ON TIME!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
