UNDER HIS WINGS!

Psalm 17:8 – Devotional

Psalm 17:8

“Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.”

I once read about a forest service worker who was walking through an area that had just been ravaged by a forest fire. He saw a strange mound and stopped to check it out. To his astonishment it was a mother bird that had been killed by the fire. As he knelt to examine the bird, he heard a peep from under the pile of ashes. When he turned the bird over he found several chicks.

Instead of flying to save herself, the mother had sacrificed herself in order to protect her brood from the fire that was sweeping toward them. That is what Jesus has done for us. He wants to shelter us under His wings from the firestorm of life.

In 1896, William Cushing wrote the words and Ira Sankey composed the music to the hymn, Under His Wings. Enjoy this featured hymn from GloryScapes.

Under His Wings

1. Under His wings I am safely abiding,
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild,
Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me,
He has redeemed me, and I am His child.

Refrain: Under His wings, under His wings, who from His love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever.

2. Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow!
How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
There I find comfort, and there I am blessed.

Refrain: Under His wings, under His wings, who from His love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever.

3. Under His wings, oh, what precious enjoyment!
There will I hide till life’s trials are over;
Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me,
Resting in Jesus, I am safe evermore.

Refrain: Under His wings, under His wings, who from His love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever.

ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING! – Music Devotional

ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING!

Music Devotional

Psalm 145:10-11

“All Your works shall praise You, O Lord, and Your saints shall bless You.
They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The older I get (and I am getting up there), the more disturbed I am about senseless killing. This is not only true of attacks on other people, but also on the killing animals just for the sport of it. In my hunting days I did shoot game, but it was for food not for sport. Now, however, there are many that hunt only for bragging rights, not for food. God meant for us to be keepers and protectors, not killers.

In 1225, when he was feeling ill and losing his sight, Francis of Assisi wrote about what was always on his heart: the praise of God. In All Creatures of Our God and King, his love for God and the world He made comes out very strongly.

Probably because he lived such a simple life, he noticed things that we, in our busy lives, tend to overlook. Francis believed that all earth’s creatures get their life from God and that we all depend on Him for our continual existence.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING!

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
O, praise Him, Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him, O praise Him,

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong,
Ye clouds that sail in heav’n along,
O, praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
Ye lights of evening, find a voice!
O, praise Him, O praise Him,

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Let all things their creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O, praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One!
O, praise Him, O, praise Him

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

And all ye men of tender heart,
Forgiving others, take your part,
O, praise Him! Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
Praise God and on Him cast your care!
O, praise Him, O, praise Him

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL! – Music Devotional

BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL!

Music Devotional

Psalm 103:1

Bless the Lord, my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This Friday we have a special treat for you. Russ Hansen has created a new song entitled, “Bless the Lord, O My Soul.” He would appreciate your feedback at inspiration@thegoodbookcompany.com.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Bless the Lord, O My Soul (inspired by Psalm 103)

Verse 1
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
All within me bless His name.
He forgives all my iniquities,
He heals me when I’m faint.
He redeems my life from darkness,
Crowns me with His tender care;
He renews me like the eagle
With the goodness He prepares.

Chorus
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
For His mercy never ends.
From the east unto the west
He has taken all my sin.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
For His love is strong and sure.
From everlasting to everlasting,
His compassion will endure.

Verse 2
The Lord works righteousness and justice
For the ones oppressed and worn.
He made known His ways to Moses,
Showed His wonders evermore.
He is gracious, slow to anger,
Rich in love that does not fade;
He will not always chide His people,
Nor repay us as we’ve strayed.

Chorus
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
For His mercy never ends.
From the east unto the west
He has taken all my sin.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
For His love is strong and sure.
From everlasting to everlasting,
His compassion will endure.

Verse 3
As a father shows deep pity
To the children that he loves,
So the Lord shows grace and kindness
To the hearts that fear His touch.
For He knows our frame is fragile,
We are dust before His throne;
Like the grass that fades and withers,
We are here—and then we’re gone.

Bridge
But His mercy goes forever,
From all ages to the next;
On His children and their children
Who will honor His commands.
He has set His throne in heaven,
Every kingdom under Him stands;
All His works proclaim His glory—
Bless the Lord, O my soul again!

Final Chorus
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
For His mercy never ends.
From the east unto the west
He has taken all my sin.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
For His love is strong and sure.
From everlasting to everlasting,
His compassion will endure.

Reprise
Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

WHAT I CANNOT SEE! – Psalm 115:5 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

WHAT I CANNOT SEE!

Psalm 115:5 – Devotional

Psalm 115:5

“They have mouths, but they do not speak; eyes they have, but they do not see.”

Recently I observed a driver making a right turn at an intersection. The traffic light was red for him and he was permitted to make a right turn, but only after coming to a complete stop and insuring that no on-coming traffic was approaching.

I was in an inside lane and watched as he narrowly missed the car having the right-of-way. It was then I noticed that he seemingly averted his eyes from the car he had cut in front of—as if by not looking at the other driver, his action was okay.

We once had a small dog named Perky. Perky loved to come to the table at meal time. He knew he was not supposed to, so he would turn his head away from the table as he drew near. Perky thought if he could not see us we could not see him.

Sometimes I think we treat God the same way. We fail to focus our attention on Him and thus feel that He cannot see us. That is totally false thinking. God knows us better than we will ever know ourselves, yet He still loves us enough to die on the cross for us. May God forgive us our blind eyes and allow us to see the reality of His love for us.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
