Psalm 100:1

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs”

Let every nation raise a joyful sound,
Let every heart lift up the Lord.
Come with gladness, come with singing,
Let your praises rise before Him.

Remember who the Lord God is,
He formed us and we belong to Him.
We are His own, the people He has chosen,
Like sheep who follow where He leads.

Let our voices fill the earth!
He is good and He is faithful,
His great love will never end.
From one generation to another,
His mercy will remain.

And honor His holy name!

Psalm 19:14 – Devotional

Psalm 19:14 ​

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”

As I reflect back on my boyhood days, I feel blessed for the time I spent as a Boy Scout. The values and qualities that we were taught have played a vital part of the person I have become. As I was thinking about the Boy Scout Oath we took at the beginning of each meeting, I only wish that each Scout lived up to the oath.

“On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help others at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

Truly honorable people recognize a duty to God. It is not that God owes us, but much more that we owe Him our best. If Jesus gave His life for us, we need to commit ourselves to serve Him with the best we have. We are also to serve others. One of the strongest messages that Jesus stressed was to give to others.

How we behave when no one is looking reveals the true person we are. We may keep up appearances when others are looking, but how do we act when we are alone with ourselves? We need to be aware that the Lord knows the thoughts and intents of our heart — He is always looking for our best!

FLAT TIRES!

Psalm 37:23-24 – Devotional

Psalm 37:23-24​

“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him;
though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”

When Joyce and I were first married in 1952, our first car was a black 1948 four door Chevrolet sedan. It was a good reliable automobile with one glaring exception, the tires.

I cannot recall ever having engine troubles of any kind, but the tires were another story entirely. It seemed that we had more flat tires than you could shake a stick at. We were living hand to mouth, so even when a tire was beyond repair we could not afford new tires, so we purchased re-caps. The process back then was less than desirable and we paid the price.

There was one trip that we made from Idaho to South Dakota where I was stationed in the US Air Force. My dad bought us a set of re-cap snow tires to insure that we would be safe. The first tire blew out about 100 miles on our 900 mile trip and the second at the 500 mile marker. We had a wonderful time. Ha!

Life seems at times to be just like that. We experience blow-outs of all kinds. Just when we think all is going smooth, we feel that sickening thump, thump, thump that indicates a flat. But I want to let you in on a little secret. It is in those times of stress and failure that the best memories are made. I believe that our marriage was strengthened as we endured the “flat tires” of life together. With the Lord beside us and His Word to guide us, what more could we ask for?!

HE KNOWS!

Psalm 139:1-4 – Devotional

Psalm 139:1-4

“O LORD, You have searched me and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue You know it completely, O LORD.“

Many years ago during a Sunday morning worship service, Zane, our oldest grandson, was sitting next to Joyce. As I was halfway into the sermon, Zane leaned over and asked, “Gran, is Papa talking about me?” She assured him that it was the Holy Spirit using Papa’s words to speak to his heart.

Many times I have received responses from readers of the Daily-E-Votional remarking that the words in a particular daily message was just for them. It assures me that the Lord delivers my words to the heart that needs them.

I find comfort in the realization that the Lord knows all of our tomorrows just as well as He knows our todays. We try to guess what lies ahead for us, but only the Lord has our future in His hands — as well as our present.

Here is the vital question: Are we trying to make our own choices with our limited view of what lies ahead? That is like driving down the freeway at 70 miles per hour with our eyes closed. I would rather prayerfully seek the guidance of the Lord than stubbornly demand my own way.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BLESS THE LORD ALWAYS!

Psalm 34:1 – Devotional

Psalm 34:1

“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

We should always be a BLESSING PEOPLE! Honestly I have been around some people who drain the life and vitality out of anyone they are in contact with.

What does it mean to always bless the Lord? I think it means to leave people feeling better because they have been with us. Blessing the Lord for all things is what we are to do. Doing it consistently is what we are to be.

We live in a hurting world. Trouble and strife are all around us and it seems to be getting worse all the time. If ever there was a time when people need a blessing from the Lord, it is now. The people of God are the ones who should at all times and in every situation be a BLESSING PEOPLE.

How would you describe yourself? Let me rephrase that. How would other people describe you? Are you a BLESSING PERSON? Do you leave a trail of people that have been blessed after spending time with you? The Scripture says we are to bless the Lord at all times and praise is to be continually in our mouth. Can that honestly be said about you? Strive to always be one who can be described as a Blessing person. Encourage and bless as many people as possible today!
