THE SKUNK!

Joel 2:20

But I will remove far from you the northern army, and will drive him away into a barren and desolate land, with his face toward the eastern sea and his back toward the western sea; His stench will come up, and his foul odor will rise, because he has done monstrous things.

When I was a boy my dad decided to dig a basement. Now when I say he was going to dig a basement, I mean that literally. He made a hole in the foundation and began digging in the dirt under the house. Before long he needed to find a better way to remove the dirt, so he installed a conveyor. What a man!

Things had gone very well until one night we heard a noise coming from the partially-dug basement. Dad carefully opened the door to see who or what it was. Unfortunately, it was a skunk that had found its way into the new hole under our house. By the time the culprit was removed the stench was eye-watering.

We find ourselves in the same sort of predicament in our modern world. There has been so much putrid sin that it raises a stench that reaches to the heaven. Even some churches have ignored the Word of God and allowed the “skunk” of perversity to enter. Listen — if God says it is sin, it is sin. Stay away from it!

DREAM!

Joel 2:28

I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

A few minutes ago I was reading while listening to soft music in the background. The song Dreams came on and it almost brought me to tears. Back when Joyce and I were high school sweethearts, we would listen to that song and talk about our life together. We dreamed about our own home and family and it drew us close.

That, my dear friend, was almost sixty years ago. As I listened again it was from the opposite end of life. With eyes wide open I was in a dream of what joys we have shared across these years. We have not only been husband and wife, but we are and always have been best friends.

Life passes all too quickly it seems, but at the same time each of us have the ability to choose to share, sacrifice, and spend ourselves to make that other person feel how much we love them. It is very critical to make our dreams become more than mere smoke rings. We need the fire to ignite our sense of purpose in serving the Lord and those we love.

When the Lord drew us to each other, He did so with the idea that we would serve Him better as a couple than individually. There are others who have been called to dream on their own about furthering the cause of Christ. What is your dream? Are you asking the Lord to reveal Himself to you His plan for your life? DREAM!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
