GODLY DELIGHT! – Psalm 1:1-2 Devotional

GODLY DELIGHT!

Psalm 1:1-2 – Devotional

Psalm 1:1-2

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

Delight is a delightful word. I can’t believe I wrote that! Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it: a strong feeling of happiness: great pleasure or satisfaction. That is the same definition David intended when he penned the words of this Psalm.

What brings delight into your life? What are the things that pleasure you? If we are honest with ourselves I think most of us would have to confess that it is the earthly things that pleasure us; things we can touch taste or feel.

If you will read today’s Scripture once again, you’ll see that David emphasizes that we are to delight in the law of the Lord. By that he implies in the Word of God. In taking delight in the Word of God, a person needs to meditate on it day and night.

I have observed that meditate comes from the root word that pictures a cow chewing the cud. Swallowing and then bringing up into the mind once again until it becomes a part of us. Where do you find your delight?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

ALERT DUTY! – Psalm 37:34 Devotional

ALERT DUTY!

Psalm 37:34 – Devotional

Psalm 37:34

“Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

When I was in the military there were times when I was assigned to “Alert Duty.” What that implied, was that those of us who were on duty were not sleep, but were to maintain a constant state of readiness. We few would be tasked to alert the other members of the unit who would then spring into action.

In today’s Scripture, the psalmist is calling us to take on the assignment of being on alert. We are to be the watchmen (watchwomen) who keep our eyes open to the threats of the enemy.

Not only are we called to be alert to spiritual danger, but we are also to be aware of the leading of the Lord. When He is working in our midst, we need to rush to His side in order to respond to His call.

Are you on Alert Duty for the Lord? Are you spiritually aware of what God is doing in your midst in order to join with Him in bringing about His purposes? Now is the time to shake off the spiritual slumber and be alert.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S ETERNAL DAY! – Psalm 118:24 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S ETERNAL DAY!

Psalm 118:24 – Devotional

Psalm 118:24

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

There is something about a new day which gives us a hope of a bright new future. There is a day coming in which there will be no night! There is a day when all our tears and sorrows will be a thing of the past. It will be such a day that we will not even be able to recall any vestige of pain or longing! It will be a day that will be unlike any day before — a day that will never end!

That is what we have to look forward to. It is our hope and expectation as believers. Isn’t it great?! It is what gives us the drive to keep on keeping on. It is a day unlike all other days. But we must recognize that we are still living in our present day and age, which may be thought of as “this day.”

If we fail to live “this day” in accordance with God’s will, we will not be prepared for “that day” which is our eternal hope. It is in the decisions we make in “this day” that qualify us for “that day!” Some wag has come up with a cliché about people who are “so heavenly minded that they are of no earthly use!” God forbid that we ever fall into that category.

Jesus is coming again. He has come the first time to give us a day to be remembered. He has promised that He is coming again to take us to be with Him. We must share the good news of His gospel to those who are lost. We also need to lift those who need a word of encouragement or a helping hand. We have no end to the various ministries which are there for us to perform. A willing heart and a commitment to the Word of God will work miracles. What a day it will be!

Blessings dear hearts. May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

WATCH YOUR MOUTH! – Psalm 19:14 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

WATCH YOUR MOUTH!

Psalm 19:14 – Devotional

Psalm 19:14

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

How many times have we said something that caused us embarrassment? We immediately had the urge to yank the words back into our mouth, but it was too late and the damage was done.

Insulting words leave lasting impressions on others who hear them. Words spoken in anger or resentment will last for a long time in the minds of those who are the recipients of our thoughtless outburst. Are you feeling a little uncomfortable right now? It does little good to say we are sorry after we have used words in a way that causes pain to another.

During WWII there was a slogan that was prominently displayed everywhere: LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS! The meaning was that spies might be listening for information that might be passed on to the enemy and used to cause harm and even loss of life.

In like manner we need to make Psalm 19:14 a regular part of our prayer life. The words we speak will be a reflection of the time we spend with the Lord in prayer and meditation upon His word.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

GOD’S PURE WORD! – Psalm 12:6 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S PURE WORD!

Psalm 12:6 – Devotional

Psalm 12:6

“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

I have often heard the expression; “If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!” The same is even more applicable to a refiner of silver. The refiner of silver sits in front of the refining fire to watch the intense heat burn away the impurities.

It is essential in the refining process for the silversmith to stay in front of the fire at all times without taking his eyes off the silver. If the silver were to be left in the intense heat for a moment too long the silver would be destroyed. The only way for the silversmith to know when the silver was fully refined was when he can see his own image reflected in it.

All too often we try to escape the fire of God’s refining oven rather than to allow Him to have control to determine when He is able to see His image reflected back. It is not easy for us to endure the heat of God’s refining fire, but the result is that we will become like Him.

As we begin 2024, may we be totally yielded to the Lord. May God’s will rather than our own will be done in us!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PLEASANT AND COMELY! – Psalm 147:1 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PLEASANT AND COMELY!

Psalm 147:1 – Devotional

Psalm 147:1

“Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

I can recall as a young boy trying to sing louder than a girl in our class. It might have blown some of the vital vocal chords in the process, for I have lacked vocal acuity for as long as I can remember.

I love and appreciate music, but I simply cannot express it in the manner I desire. At times I have heard people sing that seemed to think they could sing, but what they thought and what they produced was vastly different.

I look forward to the day when we will gather around the Thrown of God and sing with voices that are perfect in pitch, parameter, and purpose. Until that day I will enjoy listening to the voices of those blessed with the gift of music.

It is wonderful that our praise to the Lord does not depend on our ability, but upon our availability. Give yourself to the Lord in all that you do and your actions will become a sweet, pleasant, and comely sound of praise to Him!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
