WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN! 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 – Devotional

WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN!

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 – Devotional

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18

“After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.“

Though an invalid for much of her life, Eliza Edmunds Hewitt was always active and enjoyed a long personal friendship with Fanny Crosby. These two women met often for fellowship and discussion of their new hymns. Eliza was a school teacher in Philadelphia and a Christian lay worker who was committed to write songs to teach children the basic truths of the gospel. This song was written for her own Sunday school class in Philadelphia.

Miss Hewitt often attended the Methodist camp meetings at Ocean Grove, New Jersey. It was here that she collaborated with Emily Wilson, the wife of a Methodist district superintendent in Philadelphia, in the writing of this triumphant gospel hymn–a favorite of young and old alike. “When We All Get to Heaven” was first published in 1898.

WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN

1. Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace.
In the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

2. While we walk the pilgrim pathway, Clouds will overspread the sky;
But when traveling days are over, Not a shadow, not a sigh.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

3. Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

4. Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open; We shall tread the streets of gold.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

PLEASANT AND COMELY! – Psalm 147:1 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PLEASANT AND COMELY!

Psalm 147:1 – Devotional

Psalm 147:1

“Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.”

I can recall as a young boy trying to sing louder than a girl in our class. It might have blown some of the vital vocal chords in the process, for I have lacked vocal acuity for as long as I can remember.

I love and appreciate music, but I simply cannot express it in the manner I desire. At times I have heard people sing that seemed to think they could sing, but what they thought and what they produced was vastly different.

I look forward to the day when we will gather around the Thrown of God and sing with voices that are perfect in pitch, parameter, and purpose. Until that day I will enjoy listening to the voices of those blessed with the gift of music.

It is wonderful that our praise to the Lord does not depend on our ability, but upon our availability. Give yourself to the Lord in all that you do and your actions will become a sweet, pleasant, and comely sound of praise to Him!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GET THIS LIGHT! – John 8:12 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GET THIS LIGHT!

John 8:12 – Devotional

John 8:12

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”

I frequently receive solicitations through my e-mail offering the brightest flashlight on the face of the planet. Well, it may not be specifically described in that manner, but they make it sound as if I cannot live without it.

Now I want you to know that I am not adverse to light. As a teen, I learned to quietly slip into the house a few minutes after curfew because I did not want my parents to know I was late. A few times, however, I found myself stumbling over a chair or table. My mom had a habit of rearranging the furniture. Hmm! I wonder if she did that as a ploy to hear when I came home?

It is sad to realize that many people have not received The Light (Jesus) that came into the world to free us from the inky blackness of sin. We are born into sin and the only way for the light to shine is to receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. It is not by infant baptism or doing good works, but only by confessing our sins and asking the Lord to take control of our life.

Do you have His Light in your life? If not, I urge you to take that vital step right now. I assure you that this Light is definitely the brightest light in the universe!

Blessings dear hearts!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

THE PURE WORD! – Psalm 12:6 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

THE PURE WORD!

Psalm 12:6 – Devotional

Psalm 12:6

“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”

I think almost everyone will readily agree that we live in an impure world. From time to time we hear the call for us to return to the “good ole days!” Some astute observer has observed that we were neither good nor were we old.

The heart of mankind is wicked by nature. We like to picture babies as being perfect little angels, but those of us who are parents will vividly recall those times when our “little angels” did not behave as angels!

As imperfect people living in an imperfect world, we need a reliable source of spiritual truth. That unchanging and always reliable truth is the Word of God. Just to carry the Bible or quote a few verses is not enough. We must live it!

We live the Word of God by spending time in it and making it the dependable source of truth. When we use God’s Word as our source of truth, the errors of worldly philosophy will readily be exposed. THE PURE WORD!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
