Proverbs 4:19-22

“The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble. My son, give attention to My words; Incline your ear to My sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.”

We are rapidly approaching the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord. In our church we call it Resurrection Sunday. Unfortunately most people call it Easter. Why on earth would I make a statement like that? Let me tell you why.

The word “pascha” mistranslated “Easter” in Acts 12:4, AV, denotes the Passover (RV). The phrase “after the Passover” signifies after the whole festival was at an end. The term “Easter” is not of Christian origin. It is another form of Astarte, one of the titles of the Chaldean goddess, the queen of heaven.

The pagan festival of “Easter” was quite distinct and was introduced into the apostate Western religion, as part of the attempt to adapt pagan festivals to Christianity.

What is the significance of the Easter Bunny? Both the Easter egg and the Easter bunny symbolize fertility and new life. Celebrating fertility is very much a pagan tradition. It is obvious why the egg symbolizes fertility, and if you remember the expression “they breed like rabbits”, then you will also see why the bunny rabbit symbolizes fertility — rabbits breed prolifically.

How sad that we have followed a tradition with a name associated with a pagan goddess that led God’s people away from the true God and into idolatry. I urge you to join with me and others in two weeks, on April 12th as we celebrate RESURRECTION DAY! HE IS RISEN!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
