I Thessalonians 5:21-24
“Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.”
Every time I read this or any other Scripture that speaks of holding fast to something, I think of my mom. My mom was the opposite of “hoarder.” She was what may be termed a “flinger.” If she did not know what it was or if it was in the wrong place, out it went.
I can still recall digging through the trash looking for school assignments, dad’s contracts or other things that were very important. The rule became, “If you can’t find it, head for the nearest trash barrel.”
When we would ask mom about why she did it, she would just smile and say, “It didn’t look important to me.” I have heard of kids making excuses for not having papers to turn in because the dog ate it, but I always felt that I was unique in using my mom as my excuse.
That precious little mother of mine was just over five feet tall, but she was a giant in my eyes. Our home was always neat and orderly. It was a haven that we could always count on. Above all, she loved the Lord and taught my brother and me spiritual values. Thanks mom!
Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
