Jeremiah 2:13

“My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken Me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

Back when I was a teenager (believe me, that was a long time ago) I worked for my uncle on the Oklahoma Panhandle. My job was to drive a tractor pulling a disc plow. For those who have not been there or done that, a disc plow is a row of concave circular steel discs that turn over the soil. It is about 15 or 20 feet wide.

You always kicked up large amounts of dust. At times the wind would be blowing and the dust blew back over you, covering you from head to foot with a layer of fine dust. My uncle always told me to go to the pump before coming in the house. The water from the pump was cool as well as washing away the thick grime.

Sin has covered us with layer upon layer of filth and grime. It does not matter what we do to get rid of it, it still remains. It is only by the blood that flows from Calvary’s Fountain that we can be cleansed and refreshed.

There Is A Fountain

There is a fountain filled with blood
drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains,
lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see
that fountain in his day;
And there have I, though vile as he,
washed all my sins away.
Washed all my sins away,
washed all my sins away;
And there have I, though vile as he,
washed all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God
be saved, to sin no more.
Be saved, to sin no more,
be saved, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed church of God
be saved, to sin no more.

E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme,
and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die,
and shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme,
and shall be till I die.

Then in a nobler, sweeter song,
I’ll sing Thy power to save,
When this poor lisping, stammering tongue
lies silent in the grave.
Lies silent in the grave,
lies silent in the grave;
When this poor lisping, stammering tongue
lies silent in the grave.

Lord, I believe Thou hast prepared,
unworthy though I be,
For me a blood bought free reward,
a golden harp for me!
‘Tis strung and tuned for endless years,
and formed by power divine,
To sound in God the Father’s ears
no other name but Thine.
