Titus 3:4-5
“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”
One night, 1886, in group of Christians were singing in a down-and-out part of a large city. A distraught young woman questioned if it would be possible for a sinner like her to be saved. Listening to her heart-cry for salvation, she was taken back to the mission and left with the ladies in charge. The young, wayward woman was brought to Christ that night.
A situation was secured for her in a minister’s family. Sometime later she became ill and had to be taken to a hospital. She rapidly failed and it became evident that she would not be long on earth. One of the gentlemen, whom she had met on that night on the street, was visiting her in the ward. After quoting a few suitable verses of Scripture, he repeated her favorite hymn, “All to Christ I Owe.”Two hours afterward she passed away.
Of course the greatest payment in our behalf is the gift of eternal life. It cost the horrible death of our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He paid what we could not pay. He went to the cross voluntarily because He knew we would never be able to pay the cost.
Jesus Paid It All
I hear the Savior say,
“Thy strength indeed is small!
Child of weakness watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.”
Refrain:
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow.
For nothing good have I,
whereby Thy grace to claim
I will wash my garments white,
In the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb.
Refrain:
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow.
And when before the throne,
I stand in Him complete,
I’ll lay my trophies down,
All down at Jesus’ feet.
Refrain:
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow.

Titus 3:8
“This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.”
Years ago when I served on the Idaho Law Enforcement Planning Commission, we required each agency that received financial assistance to submit a report on how the grant money was spent and the result. A report we received from a small town Chief of Police was very brief and to the point: “Hired one man and he done good.”
We had a good laugh at the brevity of the Chief’s report and then agreed that while it was brief and humorous, it conveyed more than many reports that droned on page after page but revealed little vital information.
Paul was very direct in his instructions to Titus, his young student in the Faith. Titus was instructed to affirm constantly and to be consistent in his ministry. The thing that he was to stress was the necessity of good works.
Works do not bring about salvation, but they do reveal what are the important things in our ministry. How would others describe your service to the Lord? Could you be described as just talking the talk or walking the walk? Are you doing good works or simply talking about what is good. DO GOOD!

Titus 3:4-5
“But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”
When I was a young man (many years ago) a new pastor came to our church. On his first Sunday he stood with his family to introduce them to the congregation. As he reached out his hand to place it on his son’s head, the boy ducked as if he was about to get a cuff to the head. It was soon learned that it was the boy’s wicked sense of humor, not his father’s actions.
All too often we as believers live as though God takes delight in causing us pain or suffering. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was while we were sinners that God loved us and came into the world to give us eternal life.
There is no way we could ever be good enough to merit His love and salvation. In fact it is for wayward sinners that He shed His blood. We can never earn our salvation or His blessings on our life.
God’s great grace is freely bestowed on us in our most despicable condition. As fallen sinners He loves us and showers us with a love so great we will not be able to understand it until eternity. We do not have to understand it, but just need to bathe in the cleansing and redeeming blood of the Lamb. Relish in GOD’S GREAT GRACE!
Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
