BE GLAD IN THE LORD! – Psalm 64:10 Devotional

BE GLAD IN THE LORD!

Psalm 64:10 – Devotional

Psalm 64:10

“The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.”

When I was a boy (a very long time ago) we attended a church that had many colorful members. Some were happy and others usually looked like they had been baptized in vinegar!

I must confess that I tried to stay as far away from the vinegar people as possible. Come to think about it, I seldom saw anyone spend time with them. It was usually just them standing alone and looking mad at the world.

I think it was at that time that I determined I would try to emulate the joyous and happy Christians. As much as I could I would look like I was on my way to my glorious home in heaven, rather than the other way around!

It is question and answer time! What image do we project to those around us? Do we live a radiance that comes from knowing our sins are forgiven and we are on our way to heaven, or are we vinegar people and cause others to wonder where we are headed? BE GLAD IN THE LORD!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

MAKE ME LIKE JESUS! – Psalm 51:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

MAKE ME LIKE JESUS!

Psalm 51:10 – Devotional

Psalm 51:10

“Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

How clean are you? Do you possess a steadfast spirit? Are you open to the Lord doing the work that only He can do to mold you into the person He desires for you to be in serving Him?

How many unintentional spiritual failures have you experienced just because you became too busy with worldly pursuits? Let me ask yet another penetrating question. Have you ever made a commitment to someone, then after days, weeks, or even months, realize that you have failed to follow through? (It’s getting a little uncomfortable isn’t it!)

It is easy to see the faults of others while at the same time ignoring our own short comings. I think that the more easily we find fault in others, the easier it is to overlook the lack of trust in our own lives. There have been many times that people have disappointed me by saying one thing and then doing another. I want to strive to never allow that to be true of me.

I always want to take my hurts to the foot of the cross and leave them there with the One who is rejected by so many. My desire is to live more like Him every day. With the help of the Lord we can be more like Him by committing ourselves to learn more about Him from His Word.

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

COME THOU FOUNT! – Psalm 36:9 Devotional

COME THOU FOUNT!

Psalm 36:9 – Devotional

Psalm 36:9

“For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Robert Robinson who lived from 1735 to 1790, was saved while attending a service conducted by the famous evangelist George Whitefield. Following his conversion he entered the Christian ministry, but like so many, he would lose his fervor for God.

The words of the hymn “Come Thou Fount” were written to express his own need for a closer walk with the Lord. His prayer is that his heart may be re-tuned to be in perfect harmony with the will of God.

In stanza two he speaks of his conversion. The word “Ebenezer” refers to a time and place when he actually received the Lord into his life as personal Savior and Lord. He goes on to remind himself and others that it is necessary to daily remind ourselves what a debt we owe to the Lord for our salvation at His expense.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Come Thou Fount

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount-I’m fixed upon it-mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by Thy help I’m come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wand’ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wand’ring heart to Thee;
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it; seal it for Thy courts above.

PLEASING GOD! – Psalm 51:16-17 Devotional

PLEASING GOD!

Psalm 51:16-17 – Devotional

Psalm 51:16-17

“For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”

Many times I have heard preachers preach and teachers teach about pleasing God. More often than not they espouse a litany of do’s and don’ts that come from their own creation rather from the Lord.

Jesus was consistently confronted by self proclaimed defenders of religiosity that was of their own creation. They had left the sweet joy of pleasing God in order to follow a man-made list of rules. Jesus taught that these rules did not please God!

We can only imagine the indignation of these pompous creators of so-called laws that placed heavy burdens that even they could never fully satisfy. They were miserable themselves and they made sure that others were just as miserable.

Jesus, on the other hand brought a sense of peace, joy, and deliverance to each and every sinner who reached out to Him in faith believing. He still does that today! If we are serious about pleasing God we only need to read His Word and do what it says. A spiritually broken spirit finds peace and joy in pleasing God!

JESUS IS OUR SALVATION! – Psalm 118:14 Devotional

JESUS IS OUR SALVATION!

Psalm 118:14 – Devotional

Psalm 118:14

“The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.”

Have you ever received one of those notices from the friendly folks at your bank informing you that there is a deficit in your checking account and you need to take action immediately or dire action will follow?

It is very easy for us to feel overwhelmed by circumstance. As a result, we spend far too much time wallowing around in self-pity or complaining that life is so hard we can hardly stand it.

When I read today’s Scripture, I visualize a group of athletes getting set for their event. You can see each of them pausing and even see their lips moving as they tell themselves that they can do it. It will require their very best, but they can do it.

Sometimes we need to give ourselves a pep talk. To others it may appear that we are talking to ourselves, and in fact I guess that is what it is. But as we read this passage in Psalm 118, it is a clear picture of the Psalmist talking to himself. He is distressed. He feels inadequate for the trials facing him. He is trying to shake his own shoulders and wake up spiritually. He gives us the answer. It is to find our strength in the Lord. JESUS IS OUR SALVATION.

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!
