HERE’S YOUR MILK!

1 Corinthians 15:34 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 15:34

“Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning;
for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.”

I have no idea how I get into these situations, but I was in one awhile back. I had an appointment at a café that was attached to a super market. As I was pulling into the parking lot, I noticed a young man starting to back out with a gallon of milk on the top of his car.

I stopped behind him and honked my horn. He seemed to be unaware of what I was trying to tell him. I honked again and motioned for him to roll down his window. Again he failed to understand. Other people were now honking and trying to get his attention.

Suddenly he put his car in reverse and began to back toward me. I was sure he would run into the side of my car. Just as he was about to hit my car he started forward and tried to drive through the opening to his left.

At that moment someone ran up to his window, grabbed the gallon of milk and showed it to him. Disaster was diverted and the man was able to return home with the milk that had come so close to falling on the ground.

I have been thinking about the incident all afternoon and evening. The honking did not work. The shouting did not work. It was not until someone took the milk and handed it to the driver that he stopped and received it.

All around us there are folks who leave the milk of God’s Word outside their lives. It is heartbreaking to observe as they refuse to heed our warning. Perhaps it is because we stay too far away and fail to get close enough to hand the milk to them.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

WHAT A FRIEND!

John 15:15 – Devotional

John 15:15

“I have called you friends.”

This week we have a special new song for you created by Russ Hansen entitled, “What a Friend.” He’d appreciate your feedback on this song–please send it to him at inspiration@thegoodbookcompany.com.

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts” (Colossians 3:16, emphasis added) and “Sing a new song to the Lord!” (Psalm 96:1).

What a Friend (inspired by John 15:15)

[Verse 1]
Friend of sinners—Jesus, my soul’s true lover
When others fail, He stands like no other
Though foes may rise and trials surround
My Savior lifts me, makes me sound

[Chorus]
Hallelujah! What a friend!
Hallelujah! Savior without end!
Keeping, loving, helping, saving
Ever near me, never leaving

[Verse 2]
In my weakness, He is strength unshaken
When I’m tested, tired, or mistaken
I hide in Him when I am worn
And through His power, I’m reborn

[Chorus]
Hallelujah! What a friend!
Hallelujah! Savior without end!
Keeping, loving, helping, saving
Ever near me, never leaving

[Verse 3]
When the sorrow floods my soul
And waves of grief begin to roll
Still He meets me in the pain
Brings me comfort once again

[Chorus]
Hallelujah! What a friend!
Hallelujah! Savior without end!
Keeping, loving, helping, saving
Ever near me, never leaving

[Verse 4]
Now I take Him as my own
More than all I’ve ever known
Grace and mercy freely mine
I am His and He is mine

[Chorus]
Hallelujah! What a friend!
Hallelujah! Savior without end!
Keeping, loving, helping, saving
Ever near me, never leaving

[Final Chorus]
Hallelujah! What a friend!
Hallelujah! Savior without end!
Keeping, loving, helping, saving
Ever near me, never leaving

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE! – Psalm 107:8 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE!

Psalm 107:8 – Devotional

Psalm 107:8

“Oh, that people would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
and for His wonderful works to the children of men!”

Even God’s faithful servants can lack an attitude of gratitude. My wife Joyce and I once felt led to assist a returned missionary family by providing funds for the wife to take some necessary classes so she could work as a registered nurse. It was a sacrifice on our part, but we did it joyfully. I am sad to say that there was never an expression of gratitude shown by that family.

We felt let down, but at the same time it taught us a lesson about how we are to appreciate what the Lord does for us. How many times do we receive blessing after blessing from the Lord without expressing our…ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE?

There are many actions we take that may or may not be appreciated by those for whom we have assisted. The important thing is that we must act as pleasing to the Lord rather than to please another person.

Take time to evaluate how you respond to the kindness shown to you by someone else. We demonstrate a lack of gratitude when we are guilty of forgetting to thank others for what they do for us. SHOW GRATITUDE !

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

THIS IS LOVE! – 1 John 4:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

THIS IS LOVE!

1 John 4:10 – Devotional

1 John 4:10

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us
and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

I once heard about a couple who made an appointment with a marriage counselor. They had been married for forty years and the counselor wondered why they would want to talk to him.

The wife started out by sayig that she didn’t think her husband loved her—at least he never said he loved her.

When the counselor asked the husband if this were true, he readily agreed.

The husband explained that he told his wife forty years ago that he loved her and that he had not withdrawn that statement. In the husband’s mind that 40-year-old declaration was still in effect!

(I think the counselor wanted to bang his head on the desk!)

It is seldom, if ever, that we choose up sides and talk about the meaning of the word love. Many of use think we have a grasp of its meaning, but there is some doubt that we have plumbed the depths of love’s true meaning.

Here is my candid observation: Love is an emotion.

The Bible says we are to love and, by its very nature, love needs a positive response to that command. We are prone to love only as long as the person loves us in return. Take that response away and we quickly lose the desire to continue loving.

Like it or not, we humans are self-centered and preoccupied with ourselves. If you want an example of this, just stop and listen to someone’s conversation. Note the way they focus on their own interests and welfare.

According to God’s precious Word, we are to love in the same way that Jesus loves us. That means we are to love even when the other person is not lovable.

When you stop to think about it, that is the way God loves us—when we are the most unlovable. It is while we were unlovable sinners that Christ died for us, and it’s the unlovable people around us who need us to love them—with Christ’s transforming love.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

GLEANING GOD’S WORD! – Acts 17:11 Devotional

GLEANING GOD’S WORD!

Acts 17:11 – Devotional

Acts 17:11

“They received the word with all readiness,
and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”

As I watch the wild birds outside my window, they eagerly fight over seeds I have placed in their feed cups. It seems that they want to make sure that they get every morsel of food that is available.

In today’s Scripture, Paul introduces us to the people of Berea. He commends them for three reasons: 1) they were fair-minded; 2) they received the word with all readiness; 3) they searched the Scriptures daily. Wow!

There is no specific letter that Paul penned to the people of Berea, but he commends them highly. It was because they were faithful to the WORD! We are not told how large the Berean church was, but they were a blessing to Paul.

Like my birds scratching away to glean every last bit of seed, it is my sincere desire to scratch away at the life-giving Word of God and apply it to my life. I ask you to make a new commitment to join with me in discovering the truth that the Lord has for us.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
