PLEASING GOD!

1 Samuel 15:22 – Devotional

1 Samuel 15:22

“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.”

During our 62 years of marriage, I found great joy in doing things that would delight my sweet wife. Joyce enjoyed the typical gifts such as flowers or candy, but that was not what brought her true delight. What brought her the greatest delight was when I would straighten up around my area.

Yep! You guessed it … I have a tendency to create messes! It seems like I always have the notion that I may need something someday, so I just add it to the ever-growing pile of things on my desk or near my chair. Later, as I gaze at a particular item, I wonder why in the world I ever saved it. Joyce was right!

In those times when I bite the bullet and cleaned up my work area, it delighted her. I only wish she were still here so I could try to delight her once again!

In today’s Scripture we read about what delights the Lord. It is not in what we try to give Him of our worldly possessions, but His delight is in our obedience to His Word. When God says it, we need to believe it and do it, then continue doing it! Commit to pleasing Him!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

TRUE VALUE! – Luke 12:15 Devotional

TRUE VALUE!

Luke 12:15 – Devotional

Luke 12:15

“Then He said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed;
life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.’”

There once was a man in my congregation who owned an extensive gun collection. I am not that much of a gun nut, but it was an amazing sight to view such a collection worth several thousand dollars.

One day word came that Wayne’s home had been burglarized. As you might guess, the only items stolen were the guns that he had collected over many years and with such careful attention to detail.

Driving to his home, I wondered what his response would be to this loss and was prepared to console him. Quite frankly, I expected Wayne to be angry with the intruders.

Surprisingly, the robbery victim greeted me at the door with a huge smile and a hearty laugh—he had not held onto this valuable collection as being the most important thing in his life. Even when I asked if the guns were insured, he just grinned. No, they were not insured and there was no way that he would be compensated for the loss. But Wayne did not mourn the loss of such valuable items. His true treasure was laid up in heaven and was waiting for him there.

Several years later, after we had moved to an other church and he and his wife moved across the state, we heard that Wayne had died. I could just imagine him seeing the true worth of those eternal things that this world can never value. I can hardly wait to see him some day and rejoice with him in the true value of eternal life with our Lord!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

HEAVENLY HELP! – Psalm 121:2 Devotional

HEAVENLY HELP!

Psalm 121:2 – Devotional

Psalm 121:2

“My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”

I always enjoy staring into the heavens and admiring the beauty of God’s mighty handiwork.

As I contemplate on the mighty work of God in creation, I am awed by the reality that such a mighty and all powerful God would demonstrate such heavenly help to come into this world and shed His precious blood that would cleanse my sin!

All around us we observe people who exert all of their effort to achieve frivolous goals that melt away faster than an ice cream cone on a hot summer day. They go from thing to thing or person to person trying to find satisfaction, but fail!

The precious Word of God is our never failing help that God sends us from His home in heaven. He desires for us to receive His heavenly help and then in turn share it with those around us. This glorious privilege is one of the greatest of the many blessings God has given us. Take freely of His Heavenly Help!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

PREPARE TO CONFESS! – 1 John 1:9 Devotional

by | Oct 12, 2026 | 1 John

PREPARE TO CONFESS!

1 John 1:9 – Devotional

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

One morning I was waiting at a stoplight about to proceed when suddenly a car ran the red light and careened past me, narrowly missing my left front fender. Most of us will recall cars rushing into an intersection when the light had gone from amber to red, ignoring the danger and in fact, speeding up.

My experience as a police officer leads me to believe that, in almost all of such incidents the offender will deny their offense. Most often they claim, “The light was yellow when I entered the intersection!” RIGHT!

From the days when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, human nature has not wanted to admit its guilt. Even when substantial evidence is provided, denial is still maintained. I have seen police videos showing offenders committing crimes — but even when shown these videos the offender still denies their offense. Go figure!

God wants us to be open with Him and confess our sins. Denial of our offenses will always hurt us more than others. 1 John 1:9 tells us that it is only when we confess our sins that the Lord is able to forgive and cleanse us. Our denial blocks the path of God’s forgiving grace. DON’T DENY IT!
