HIDDEN PEACE! – John 14:27 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

HIDDEN PEACE!

John 14:27 – Devotional

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

True inner peace is not achieved by our best intentions or some so-called higher level of thinking. It comes from a relationship which is established when we have been born again and receive the assurance of eternal life. The world cannot understand it, but like some “wise” person once observed; “It is better felt than telt!”

Our hymn this week is attributed to John H. Brown. There is very little information known about him, but the important legacy he leaves for us is the truth of his precious hymn.

HIDDEN PEACE

I cannot tell thee whence it came,
This peace within my breast;
But this I know, there fills my soul
A strange and tranquil rest.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

Beneath the toil and care of life,
This hidden stream flows on;
My weary soul no longer thirsts,
Nor am I sad and lone.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

I cannot tell the half of love,
Unfeigned, supreme, divine,
That caused my darkest inmost self
With beams of hope to shine.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

I cannot tell thee why He chose
To suffer and to die,
But if I suffer here with Him
I’ll reign with Him on high.

Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
He abides, Christ abides.

PRESS UPWARD! – Philippians 3:14 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PRESS UPWARD!

Philippians 3:14 – Devotional

Philippians 3:14

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

I recall reading of a race in which two competitors were matching each other stride for stride as they neared the finish line. At the last moment one of the competitors glanced over to see where the other competitor was and in so doing lost the race by the narrowest margin. Any such distraction can divert a racer’s total attention from running the race.

Coaches often give the advice to their charges, to focus only on the race and try to avoid distractions. It is good advice that applies equally to our walk with the Lord. We may be tempted to look back at the glory days, or we may look back at the approaching enemy, but we are told to look ahead.

It is tragic to observe believers who have lost their race for the Lord because they took their eyes off the Goal. There are many distractions that can demand our attention and result in a spiritual derailment.

The answer to finishing our spiritual race with victory is to keep our eyes on the prize that lies before us. The things of this world will lose their appeal as we see Jesus only!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

JESUS WINS! – Revelation 22:21 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

JESUS WINS!

Revelation 22:21 – Devotional

Revelation 22:21

“The unmerited favor of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen!”

Today’s Scripture, is my paraphrase of the last verse in the Bible. It always reminds me of the elderly man who challenged a young man just home from Bible College. He told the young man he could sum up the Book of Revelation in two words. When the young challenged him the elderly man said; “JESUS WINS!”

There is much more than that in the Book of Revelation, but it certainly gives us the assurance that Jesus is the ultimate victor! Our struggles and trials here will mean nothing when we leave this old sin-sick world and go to be with the Lord!

There will be many troubles and trials that we may encounter in this life, but all of the agony and suffering will melt away when we see our Savior face to face. It may seem as if we are faced with an impossible obstacle in thus vale of tears, but we must always remember that this world is not our home, we are only passing through!

The next time you feel as if you have come to the end of your endurance, just look up to heaven and remember that – – JESUS WINS!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PRAISE THE LORD! – Psalm 150:6 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PRAISE THE LORD!

Psalm 150:6 – Devotional

Psalm 150:6

“Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”

I think it would be safe to say that we can never praise God enough. He is now and forever worthy of our ultimate praise. Even those who deny the existence of God will one day give Him praise, but it will be too late for their salvation!

For those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, the praise we utter now will echo down through the ages of time. That is one reason why we should take every opportunity to lift our praise to Him!

When was the last time you took time to simply honor the Lord with your praise to His holy name? I think it would be safe to say that we have a deficit in our praise account. We can never have too much praise for our blessed Savior.

There will come a time when all of us with weak singing voices will join the heavenly chorus in praise to the King of kings and Lord of lords. Regardless of our singing ability let us right now – – PRAISE THE LORD!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
