WALK IN THE LIGHT!

1 John 1:6 – Devotional

1 John 1:6

“If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.”

I have a great fear that we have given people the wrong message concerning salvation. We have propounded the idea that you are able to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and go on living a godless lifestyle. That is totally wrong. I find none of that thinking in Scripture. In fact it is just the opposite. Today’s passage is just one of many that indicate our walk must match our talk.

Jesus consistently told those who had been set free from sin and disease to turn away from it and begin to walk a different walk. Now if Jesus said that to people in His day, it still applies today. It seems that somewhere along the line, we have adopted the notion that we can live like the devil and still be a child of the King. BEEP! WRONG!

Can you recall when you prayed to ask the Lord to forgive your sins and come into your life? It is essential that we have walked in the light of God’s Word and have personally invited Jesus to come into our heart. The exact words are not essential, but the sincerity of the invitation is critical! As we walk in the light of God’s Word our fellowship with true believers will grow sweeter as the days go by!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PLEASING THE LORD! – 1 Samuel 15:22 Devotional

PLEASING THE LORD!

1 Samuel 15:22 – Devotional

1 Samuel 15:22

“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord?”

I was married to my precious wife, Joyce, for 62 years. I found great joy in doing things that would delight my sweet wife. Joyce enjoyed the typical gifts such as flowers or candy, but that was not what brought her true delight. What brought her the greatest delight was when I would straighten up around my area.

Yep! You guessed it … I have a tendency to create messes! It seems like I always have the notion that I may need something someday, so I just add it to the ever-growing pile of things on my desk or near my chair. Later, as I gaze at a particular item, I wonder why in the world I ever saved it. Joyce was right!

In those times when I bit the bullet and cleaned up my work area, it delighted her. I only wish she were still here so I could try to delight her once again!

In today’s Scripture we read about what delights the Lord. It is not in what we try to give Him of our worldly possessions, but His delight is in our obedience to His word. When God says it we need to believe it and continue obeying. I want to please Him!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S GIFT OF LOVE! – 1 Corinthians 13:13 Devotional

GOD’S GIFT OF LOVE!

1 Corinthians 13:13 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 13:13

“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

I was blessed to have discovered my precious life partner when I was just a boy of 14. Joyce and I knew the joy of walking together, finally holding hands, the first kiss, and the consummation of our love on our wedding night. (I wish couples would depart from the liberal idea that sex before marriage is the norm.)

Our love continued to grow across the years as we experienced the birth of our three children and the establishment of a Christian home. It was easy to love my wife and my children. It was also easy to love my friends and neighbors — but what about others who were not lovable?

That’s where the rub comes, doesn’t it? We can be self satisfied that we are being the loving Christians that God wants us to be as long as we love the lovable people in our life. Think of the people that are near to you that are totally obnoxious. Can you show true Christian love to them?

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said we are to love those who are hard to love. Listen to His words in Luke 6:35: “- – love your enemies.” That, my dear friend, is true love! I want that for my life.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR HEAVENLY HOME! – Acts 7:55 Devotional

OUR HEAVENLY HOME!

Acts 7:55 – Devotional

Acts 7:55

“Stephen, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.”

The word “heaven” is mentioned over 575 times in the Bible. The problem is in knowing how to get there. As often as possible I strive to insure we know for certain we are heaven bound.

Fiction writers have performed a horrible disservice by depicting that entry into heaven is gained by doing more good deeds than bad ones. They have even depicted a book showing which deeds outweigh the other. More good you go to heaven; more bad you go to hell. Beep! Again, sadly that is false!

It is tragic that so many people have little or no concern about spiritual matters, yet they try to convince themselves that heaven is where they are going when they die. They think that just because they want to go there. Beep! Sadly that is false!

God’s Word says we must individually invite Him, Jesus into our heart. That insures us entrance into God’s glorious heaven. I urge you to invite your friends and family to receive God’s glorious invitation to His heaven. It is freely offered to us, but it cost God His own dear Son. What love He has for us!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
