ANGELS FROM THE REALMS OF GLORY!

Revelation 5:11-12 – Devotional

Revelation 5:11-12

“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!'”

Angels From the Realms of Glory by James Montgomery

Angels, from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story,
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Shepherds, in the fields abiding,
Watching o’er your flocks by night,
God with man is now residing,
Yonder shines the infant light:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great Desire of nations,
Ye have seen his natal star:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Sinners, wrung with true repentance,
Doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence,
Mercy calls you—break your chains:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Though an infant now we view him,
He shall fill his Father’s throne,
Gather all the nations to him;
Every knee shall then bow down:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

All creation, join in praising
God the Father, Spirit, Son,
Evermore your voices raising,
To th’eternal Three in One:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

THERE IS A FOUNTAIN! – Revelation 1:5 Devotional

THERE IS A FOUNTAIN!

Revelation 1:5 – Devotional

Revelation 1:5

“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.”

Here are the lyrics to There is a Fountain by William Cowper (1731-1800) to read and contemplate on today as we approach Good Friday.

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;
and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away.
Wash all my sins away, wash all my sins away;
and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood shall never lose its power
till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.
Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more;
till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.

E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream thy flowing wounds supply,
redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die;
redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I’ll sing thy power to save,
when this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave.
Lies silent in the grave, lies silent in the grave;
when this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave.

SOFTLY AND TENDERLY! – Revelation 3:20 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

SOFTLY AND TENDERLY!

Revelation 3:20 – Devotional

Revelation 3:20

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

This beautiful hymn was composed by Will Thompson who lived from 1847 to 1909. The words seem to capture the heart of the listener and draw us to come to Jesus. You can almost picture Jesus Himself standing patiently urging us to come to Him.

He not only pleads for us to come, but he offers complete pardon to anyone and everyone who will come to Him. He has paid the price and He has the authority to extend pardon to any who will come to Him.

The words of this hymn stress the urgent need of those who are lost. Some may feel like they have time before making that decision, but sadly for many they wait too long. Now is the hour of decision to receive Christ’s mercy and pardon!

Softly and Tenderly

Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
watching for you and for me.

Refrain: Come home, come home.
You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home.

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading;
pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies;
mercies for you and for me?

Refrain: Come home, come home.
You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home.

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
passing from you and for me.
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
coming for you and for me.

Refrain: Come home, come home.
You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home.

O, for the wonderful love He has promised,
promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
pardon for you and for me.

Refrain: Come home, come home.
You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home.

KEEP ON FIRE FOR THE LORD! – Revelation 3:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

KEEP ON FIRE FOR THE LORD!

Revelation 3:10 – Devotional

Revelation 3:10

“Because you have kept My command to hold on, I will also keep you from the hour of trial which will come upon the whole world.”

From time to time I have received advertisements for a heated travel mug. They are advertised for those frosty mornings (or evenings) when you are forced to spend time behind the wheel of your car. You can just plug your cup into your cigarette lighter in order to keep your coffee, tea, or soup piping hot.

Keeping things nice and hot has long been a problem. This is true for beverages, but it is also true in other areas of humanity. My heart breaks when I am contacted by couples who have let the fervent flame of love flicker low- – and even die.

Love is always a choice. Actually it is more than a choice, it is a commitment. True love requires the giving of ourselves as our gift of love. As we do we receive pleasure from the person who is the object of our love.

It is wrong for us to demand gratification rather than finding ways of giving it selflessly. Examine your spiritual love life. Has it become tepid? Plug into the outlet of God’s grace. Turn up the heat once again and sizzle for Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PAY ATTENTION! – Revelation 3:2 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PAY ATTENTION!

Revelation 3:2 – Devotional

Revelation 3:2

“Pay attention and strengthen the things that you still have, that are about to die, for I find your works imperfect in the sight of God.”

Several years ago my wife Joyce and I were stopped at a traffic light when we saw our newspaper delivery man about to enter the intersection. He saw us and waved just as he was entering the intersection. Joyce and I both immediately shouted, “Watch Out!”

Naturally he could not hear us. What we saw, and that he failed to see because he was waving to us, was a stopped vehicle just ahead of him. There was a crunch of metal as he collided with the other car. He was not traveling very a fast so there were no injuries.

That particular mishap has always reminded me that it is vital to keep our attention on what is going on around us. In today’s Scripture we have the warning from the Lord to be watchful and to strengthen the spiritual things that will count for eternity.

As we read the messages the Lord gives in Revelation 2 & 3 to each of the seven churches, it is interesting that He says He knows their works. That is just as true for us today as it was for the churches in that day. Here is our question: Are we paying attention to God’s Word?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
