DEPENDENCE OR INDEPENDENCE?

Philippians 2:3 – Devotional

Philippians 2:3

“Let each of you value others above yourselves.

If your kids are anything like our kids, they went through a stage of independence. They wanted to do things themselves, even when they were not able to accomplish the task they were attempting. Kids are not alone in acting independently.

I once went golfing with my father-in-law and two of his regular golfing mates. I had never been on the links before, but since I was far younger than the others, I felt that I could hold my own. I stood at the first tee and gave a mighty swing! I missed the ball completely! On the next mighty swing I struck the ball, only to have it dribble a few feet from the tee. It was a very long and humiliating day. The others enjoyed the day as I was providing them with great entertainment.

On this day, July 4th, we celebrate Independence Day. While we may rejoice in the freedoms that our forefathers fought to assure us, it is vital that we remember that we never are to live independently. WE NEED EACH OTHER!

Not only do we need each other, we must have the Lord in control of our lives. In Acts 17:28 we are reminded; “In Him we live and move and have our being.” Our independent attitude ends with our total dependence on Him. HAPPY DEPENDENCE DAY!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LABOR TO RECEIVE REST! – Matthew 11:28 Devotional

LABOR TO RECEIVE REST!

Matthew 11:28 – Devotional

Matthew 11:28

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

It seems that this call of Jesus to come to Him and we will receive rest is what we long for when we feel crushed by the cares and burdens of everyday life. That is until we read further in this passage and discover that He calls us to become yoked with Him. Some cleaver jokester has commented; “Is this a yoke?”

I assure each of us that being yoked with Christ is not a laughing matter. The fact of the matter is that to take on the yoke of Christ actually is finding a deep and enduring rest that assures us of eternal rest.

Not only can we be assured of eternal peace and rest, but we also find a peace here on earth that passes all human understanding. In the midst of the storms of life we can find rest for our souls.

If you are struggling beneath the crushing cares of this world, I urge you to join with those of us who have found that the yoke of Christ lifts our burdens and brings joy that is abundant and exhilarating.

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and be a blessing!

BURDEN BEARERS! – Galatians 6:2-3 Devotional

BURDEN BEARERS!

Galatians 6:2-3 – Devotional

Galatians 6:2-3

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

I have experienced times in my life when I needed a helping hand. I have to be honest and admit that there have been many times when I was incapable of doing a project by myself and had to call for help. The older I get the more I find myself calling for help.

It would be easy to become distressed by my limitations, but at the same time it reveals to me that there are things I am capable of doing that can make a positive difference in the lives of others.

I have become a listening ear for those who need someone to listen to their heart ache and heart break. I can lift people in prayer at all hours of the day and night. I can encourage others by a smile or a phone call.

I can be there when people need a listening ear and open heart. God is gracious in giving us meaningful purpose all through our life. We are called to be burden bearers for Him!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and be a blessing!

OUR SAFE PLACE! – Proverbs 18:10 Devotional

OUR SAFE PLACE!

Proverbs 18:10 – Devotional

Proverbs 18:10

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

In the time of storms it is vital to have a safe place. When our family lived in places that were prone to severe storms, we had planned ahead where we were to go for maximum safety.

Prior preparations can often prevent destruction, injury, and even death. The essential element to provide safety is preparing a safe place while there is calm before the storm.

The spiritual realm is even of greater concern. In our physical life the storms appear and then pass over. In the spiritual realm we are facing an eternity that has glorious or horrific choices. It seems a no brainer to choose to go God’s way, but the enemy of our souls has blinded the eyes of the unsaved and filled their minds with lies and lures the lead to spiritual death.

In the midst of this sin sick world God offers a place of safety and security. This does not mean that we will be exempt from sickness, suffering and even physical death, but it does mean that we can receive assurance of our place of eternal safety! Pass the word to those who are still vulnerable to eternal destruction!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
