WHAT A VIEW! – Deuteronomy 34:1a Devotional

WHAT A VIEW!

Deuteronomy 34:1a – Devotional

Deuteronomy 34:1a

“Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land.”

Flying at night on a commuter airline is especially revealing. Washington is a fairly large state, but when climbing to a relatively low altitude, the lights of Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Portland, Tri-cities, Walla Walla, Yakima, Moses Lake, and Spokane are all clearly visible.  What a view!

What about those who are blind?  I am always in awe of the things that blind people can “see” without the aid of eyesight.  Their perceptions are so keen that touch and sound enables them to “see” what sighted people may never see.  What a view!

Isaiah was given keen spiritual sight when he wrote in Isaiah 64:4 —  For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any God besides You, who acts for the one who waits for Him.”

Now that is the view God wants us to see!  In the times of frustration and disappointment in this life, we need to recognize that the greatest views in this life are nothing. God has given us a new life that is in Him. We are new creations!  We have been born again when we invite the Lord into our heart. WHAT A VIEW!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

CHOOSE LIFE! – Deuteronomy 30:19a Devotional

CHOOSE LIFE!

Deuteronomy 30:19a – Devotional

Deuteronomy 30:19a

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life.”

Many times I have sat near grieving individuals who have just experienced the loss of a loved one. In a few instances I have been the one to deliver the news of that loved one’s death.

At times I have heard statements to the effect that God needed another angel — and the deceased person was that angel. I am always compelled to debunk the false notion that we become angels when we die.

It always delights me to learn that the deceased person had received Jesus as their personal Savior. All too often, however, there is no indication that the deceased had ever received Christ as their personal Savior. Some have tried to paint a picture of salvation where there is no basis for that false hope.

In contrast to this false comfort are those who have made the choice to go God’s way. When believers close their eyes in death, they awaken to life everlasting. That is real comfort that is based upon the certainty of God’s Word.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE! – Deuteronomy 11:7 Devotional

REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE!

Deuteronomy 11:7 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 11:7

“But your eyes have seen every great act of the Lord which He did.”

There is no question in my mind that I am better at forgetting than I am at remembering. The older I get, the more efficient I am at forgetting things that once were easy to recall and bring to mind.

I am coming to realize that it is not so much the things that I recall that matter the most, but what I do with the things that do come to mind. The critical question is, do I take action when I see the “light” that the Holy Spirit reveals to me?

In today’s Scripture, Moses is bringing to remembrance the mighty acts that God has performed for the Israelites in delivering them from bondage in Egypt. He challenges the people to recall what God has done and take positive action as a result.

We have seen the way God has acted on our behalf. As a result, it is time for us to take action. The Lord is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We can trust Him to open the doors of opportunity to serve Him in the days that He allots to us! Are we taking action?

Blessings dear hearts! God is with us today in order for us to be a blessing!

COMPLETELY YOURS! – Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Devotional

COMPLETELY YOURS!

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 6:4-5

“Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one. You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Completely Yours (inspired by Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

[Verse 1]
I love You, Lord my God, with all my heart
All my soul, all my strength, every part
You call me to walk in righteous ways
You want my obedience and my praise

To deal justly, to love what’s right
Show mercy, walk in Your light
Even in blessing, when I increase
I will bow low before the King of peace

[Pre-Chorus]
This is the center of Your desire
A heart surrendered, fully Yours

[Chorus]
I am completely Yours, completely Yours
This is the life You’ve called me to live
Every thought, every word, every deed
All that I am is Yours indeed
All my heart, all my soul, all my strength
I give You everything, nothing left
From hidden places to all that’s seen
Lord, I am completely Yours

[Verse 2]
You want my thoughts, my motives true
Every word and all I do
My whole life belongs to You
In every step, in all I pursue

From secret places deep inside
To every moment I can’t hide
You call for all, not just a part
You want to dwell within my heart

[Bridge]
Be the center of my life
Give me courage, lead me right
Be my rest on every side
In You alone I will abide

[Final Chorus]
I am completely Yours, completely Yours
You are the reason that I exist
At the center, reigning in me
I will serve You faithfully
With all my heart, my life is Yours
Lord, I am completely Yours

[Outro]
Completely Yours… completely Yours

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

THE RIGHT CHOICE! Deuteronomy 30:19 – Devotional

THE RIGHT CHOICE!

Deuteronomy 30:19 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 30:19

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

Moses was in the midst of his “upper desert discourse”—the book of Deuteronomy. He was recounting to the people of all that the Lord had done for them in the days of aimless wandering for the past 40 years.

Think of all of the miracles that the people witnessed in their deliverance from Egypt. You wonder how they could ever turn their back on God. One of the great miracles that we often overlook is the condition of their attire. After forty years walking in the desert sand, neither their sandals nor their clothing had worn out. How long does the life stay in your clothing and shoes?!

Moses challenges the people to accept the life and blessings that the Lord offers. It was a choice that they needed to make—God’s way or the way of death. It seems impossible that they would choose the way that leads to death, but they did.

We are offered the same option. In Christ we have life and blessings. But there are so many who refuse to go God’s way and instead continue along the path that leads to death. I urge you, therefore—choose life!

Blessings dear hearts. May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

CHOOSE RIGHT! – Deuteronomy 30:15-16 Devotional

CHOOSE RIGHT!

Deuteronomy 30:15-16 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 30:15-16

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.

There are many choices we are forced to make in our life. Some are easy and some are difficult. Some are multiple choice and some are either or. Some things slap us in the face and are not choices at all but a new normal that is now ours.

It occurs to me that each of us is faced with choices each and every day. It is what we choose that determines what happens next. If we seek to make life easier for ourselves we generally, if not always, hit a brick wall.

People that plan for only the fleeting pleasures of this world will soon discover that what they have chosen is not sweet, but bitter and deadly. When we choose the way the Lord has offered to us, we find the life that is satisfying and eternal. Ask God to show you from His Word the way to make the right choices as He leads you to His ultimate life in heaven with Him.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
