THE OLD RUGGED CROSS! – 2 Peter 3:9b Devotional

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS!

2 Peter 3:9b – Devotional

2 Peter 3:9b

” . . . He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Janelle Hansen writes, “My grandfather was 6′ 2” with a big booming voice and the air of a man in control of his life. He loved his cigars (which he pronounced “ceeeeeegars”), Pinochle, and his oil field buddies, but he had no love for God for most of his life. He was raised by an itinerant Methodist preacher who also ran a home for unwed mothers and both those occupations embarrassed and angered him. All of my siblings and I prayed for him throughout our childhood that he would come to know the Lord, but it seemed like that would never happen.

“But, one Sunday morning in my sophomore year of college I got a call from my father who told me in tears that he had received a letter from his father (my grandfather) relaying that he had been listening to Billy Graham on the radio and when “The Old Rugged Cross” came on, he wept uncontrollably and finally gave his heart and life to God. My Grandfather was 72 years old that day. He lived another 10 years and then went to be with the Lord.

“Never give up praying for your unsaved loved ones. The Holy Spirit will keep working on them. “. . . He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9b).

“The picture you see here is of my grandfather singing in perfect tenor harmony around the dining room table with my family about 3 years before his homegoing.”

PERFECTED FOREVER! – Hebrews 10:14 Devotional

PERFECTED FOREVER!

Hebrews 10:14 – Devotional

Hebrews 10:14

“For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

Do you remember those children’s stories that always ended with “And they lived happily ever after”? Then we got older and realized that those stories were merely fairy tales and that it is impossible to live happily ever after. Right? Wrong!

We serve a Lord and Savior who promises us the most spectacular “ever after” that could ever be imagined. Sometimes in Scripture we are given glimpses into that wonderful eternity that God has prepared for those who choose Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

In those children’s fables that we read here on earth there is a place where all of the problems and trials are ended and everything in the future is going to be perfect. We know that is just not true. We live in the reality of a sin-wrecked world that is filled with suffering and strife.

Let me quickly offer the hope that we find in the Bible: This world is not our eternal home — we are here for such a brief time that it is hard to measure in Eternity Standard Time. There will be a HAPPILY EVER AFTER for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. I want to live HAPPILY EVER AFTER!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BEHAVE! – Romans 12:12 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BEHAVE!

Romans 12:12 – Devotional

Romans 12:12

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, continue steadfast in prayer.

I am glad I grew up in an era when kids were taught to behave. Countless times I heard that stern word — BEHAVE! I did not appreciate it at the time, but the consistent discipline of my parents helped shape me into the man I became.

Somewhere along the line I learned that I could bring joy to my parents if I would simply behave on my own. That was especially true when I was left unattended. It resulted in satisfaction for them as well as for the Lord.

As we read the words of today’s Scripture, we find instruction to help us behave regardless of where we are. In hope … we rejoice! In tribulation … we are patient! In prayer … we are steadfast.

Where are you at this moment? Wherever you are or wherever you find yourself in the future, remember Romans 12:12. We have a confidence the world can never know. It is the assurance that what God has given us by the blood of Jesus Christ gives us the power and will to BEHAVE!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD CARES! – Psalm 53:2 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD CARES!

Psalm 53:2 – Devotional

Psalm 53:2

“- – the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open to hear their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.

One of my grade school teachers seemed to have eyes in the back of her head. Not that I was a problem of course, (cough, cough), but every time I did something I was not suppose to do (that was frequently), she saw me. I lived in constant fear of her!

Unfortunately, we tend to have that same attitude toward God. We picture Him as always watching out of the portals of heaven in order to catch us when we do something that is wrong. That is an incorrect understanding of God.

In today’s scripture we see that God is always watching. It is not so much that He is trying to catch us in our sin, but rather He desires to discover those who have a spiritual understanding of God and who are actively seeking to find Him in all of His glory.

When God watches you does He see a person who is actively seeking to do His will or their own will? It should be our heart’s desire to understand more about the nature of God each day. The Father gives us the Word – the Son gives us the Way – the Spirit gives us the Witness. We only have to become aware!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
