GOD’S UNIVERSE! – Isaiah 40:26 Devotional

GOD’S UNIVERSE!

Isaiah 40:26 – Devotional

Isaiah 40:26

“Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.

So many times we read Scripture and fail to grasp that the God who has made all things is trying to tell us something special. Isaiah 40:26 reveals that the Lord knows each of the stars by name. So what is so great about that?

Let me tell you just how great that is. It has been estimated that there are roughly 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone — not even considering other galaxies. If we were to count each of those stars, working day and night, no breaks of any kind, it would take some 2,500 years — yet God knows each of them by name.

Before the twelve stations of the zodiac were perverted by astrologers, they were each assigned to one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The idea that ancient astronomers could see figures in these constellations is ridiculous. There is no way the groupings look like the objects for which they are named. The star groupings, however, do send a powerful message. They are God’s handiwork.

As we reflect on the incredible order and design of God’s universe, we marvel once again at the idea that He loved us so much that Jesus Christ came to provide our salvation. It may be a setting sun, but when the stars begin to appear in the sky, it is GOD’S UNIVERSE ON DISPLAY!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

CREATE THIRST! – Mark 9:50 Devotional

CREATE THIRST!

Mark 9:50 – Devotional

Mark 9:50

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.

I once heard this wonderful illustration about motivating someone: While it is true that you can lead a horse to water, you can’t make him drink. But, you can salt his oats.

Some of us in Christian ministry wear ourselves out trying to force people to “drink” (spiritually) when they show no inclination and, in fact, flatly refuse. We heap on guilt or glitter, but there are still no slurping sounds. What is the answer? SALT THE OATS! Right! How do we do that? It is a good question and deserves careful consideration.

Salt is a very valuable mineral and has served many purposes throughout centuries. It is used to preserve food, to season foods, and even for its medicinal qualities. In Roman times the soldiers were even paid in salt, which is where the word “salary” came from. If you’ve heard that odd expression that someone “is not worth his salt,” it refers to the payment in salt that a soldier received.

With this bit of information in mind, in what way can we become “salty” Christians? Have you ever been in a room full of people and acted like you were yawning? Do you know what happens? Others start yawning themselves. Perhaps you could say that you “salted” the yawn reflex. We need to salt the oats spiritually!

There is no way we can live indifferent Christian lives and be salt and light to those around us. If we do that, we have lost our saltiness and no longer possess the appeal that will draw others to walk close to Christ. Are you salting the oats?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OPEN MY EYES! – Luke 15:20 Devotional

OPEN MY EYES!

Luke 15:20 – Devotional

Luke 15:20

“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.”

In the parable of the Prodigal Son the wayward son returned to the home of his father. He did not expect to be received as a son, but was in hopes that he could be employed as a servant.

We know the story of how the father was lovingly anticipating the return of his son. He loved the wayward youth and eagerly met him with love and extravagance. It was not because the boy deserved it, but because he needed it. The father was eager to give it to this son who had returned.

Clara Fiske Scott lived from 1841 to 1897 and tragically died after being thrown from a buggy being pulled by a runaway horse. She was a prolific hymn writer, but only this week’s featured hymn is still in circulation. Think of her hymn as it relates to a wayward son who has come home.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

OPEN MY EYES

Open my eyes, that I may see, glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key, that shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine.

Open my ears, that I may hear, voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
And while the wave notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear.

Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine.

Open my mouth, and let me bear, gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart and let me prepare, love with Thy children thus to share.

Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

May the words of this hymn become our constant prayer. In the moments when the cares of this world tend to blind us to the mighty power of God unto salvation, may our eyes see the open arms of the Savior waiting to receive us home.
