GRUMBLING! – 1 Peter 4:9 Devotional

GRUMBLING!

1 Peter 4:9 – Devotional

1 Peter 4:9

“Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

We were at a family picnic and one of the younger boys had a frown on his face, and was grumbling under his breath. He looked so miserable that he was making everyone else miserable as well.

Later one of his uncles tried to show him how to hold a bat so he would be better able to hit the ball when it was pitched. The boy’s grumbling increased so I eased closer to hear what he was grumbling about. It was hilarious when I heard his low mumble, “You old grouch!”

How ironic! He was the one who had been an old grouch (even at the age of 10), and yet was calling his uncle a grouch just because he was trying to give him instructions to help him.

I wonder how often we are prone to become grumblers as we go through life. We refuse to accept the counsel of family or friends and instead we grumble and complain. This should not be. As believers we should be the happiest and most joyous people on the face of the earth. Are we? Are you? Just remember — no grumbling allowed in God’s family!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions, without grumbling!

REASONABLE SERVICE! – Romans 12:1 Devotional

REASONABLE SERVICE!

Romans 12:1 – Devotional

Romans 12:1

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

In this crazy, mixed up, and sin sick world it is sometimes difficult to determine what is reasonable. What was once abhorrent is now the norm and what was once the norm is now narrow minded, provincial, and mean spirited. I wonder who could be behind this point of view. Could it be Satan? RIGHT!

God calls us to His living examples even when it hurts. I recall hearing of a young brother, who had a rare blood type, who was asked to donate some of his blood to save the life of his sister who had the same rare blood type.

At first the brother was hesitant, but he loved his sister and even though he was fearful, he finally agreed. As he lay on the table waiting for the doctor to draw his blood and transfuse it into his sister, he asked; “Doctor, how long before I die?”

I wonder what it would be like if we as believers in Jesus were willing to put our fear aside and begin to live a life in which we were prepared to die for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Give Christ our reasonable service!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and be a blessing!

LIVE BY FAITH! – Habakkuk 2:4 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

LIVE BY FAITH!

Habakkuk 2:4 – Devotional

Habakkuk 2:4

“Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.

It is sometimes easy to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. It reminds me of the skit where a man thinks people are laughing at his humorous wit, when actually they are laughing because he has parsley caught in his teeth.

It is not necessary to be-mean ourselves in order to achieve humility. The slips and slides we make in our daily life will provide plenty of ammunition to destroy any pride that we take in ourselves.

We need to confess our sin of pride and begin to live a life of faith and utter dependence on the Lord. Jesus made a point of pointing to the sinful pride of the Pharisees that delighted in being praised by men but neglected to please God.

The Old Testament prophet, Habakkuk points to pride as a sin and contrasts that with a just person who chooses to live by faith in the Lord. The question that each of us must respond to is – – are we living in pride or in faith? LIVE BY FAITH!
