HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! – Psalm 29:2 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!

Psalm 29:2 – Devotional

Psalm 29:2

“Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”

There have been times in my life when I have worked in dirt and grime. By the time I had finished my work it seemed that I had been coated with the filth. I could hardly wait to take a shower and clean myself up. In this sin sick world we often need to come near God’s cleansing shower and experience His holiness.

Reginald Heber was born on April 21, 1783 in Cheshire, England, to a heritage of wealth and culture. By the age of five, he had read the Bible so thoroughly that he could give chapter and verse for many chance quotations.

He composed many hymns, but served his entire life without seeing them published. It was only after his death that as many as 57 of his hymns were recognized. It was to the Lord that he dedicated his works. Such is the case with this week’s hymn, Holy, Holy, Holy!

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!

1. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

2. Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3. Holy, holy, holy! tho’ the darkness hide Thee
Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity.

4. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name, in earth and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

HE DID WHAT WE COULD NOT! – 1 Peter 3:18 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

HE DID WHAT WE COULD NOT!

1 Peter 3:18 – Devotional

1 Peter 3:18

“Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.”

We typically like to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. We may not say we deserve to be forgiven of our sins and transgressions, but we frequently act as if that were the case. “If we are good enough, God will look with favor on us.” Beep!

That thought process is categorically contrary to God’s Word. It is always by grace through faith as we read in Ephesians 2:8: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” If we are saved by grace through faith, how are we kept? The same way! We no more deserve to remain saved by our works than we are saved by our good works. It is always by God’s grace.

Does that mean we are free to live as we please? God forbid! We are now free to serve as the redeemed of the Lord. That means we have been set free from the power of sin and death to serve the Lord in the power of His redeeming grace.

Lift up your head, dear believer! We do not deserve the powerful and amazing grace of our Lord, but He showers it freely on us. Serve Him with joy and gladness as the unjust who have been blessed with freedom and everlasting life!

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BE FOUND FAITHFUL! – 2 Peter 3:14 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BE FOUND FAITHFUL!

2 Peter 3:14 – Devotional

2 Peter 3:14

“Be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.”

When we are called to our eternal home with the Lord, how will we be found by our precious Lord who gave us so much? I think that question has been on the heart and mind of every sincere follower of Christ.

Immediately I am reminded of the Scripture in Isaiah 64:6 “- – all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.” That is not encouraging to the self-help gurus who try to convince their followers that good works merit eternal reward. NOPE!

It is never by what we have done, are now doing, or will accomplish in the future, that will gain an entrance into God’s heaven. It is only by the shed blood of Christ are we saved, and only by His blood are we to be found faithful!

I desire to be found faithful in my service for the Lord when He calls me home. My desire (it really does not matter) is that I rise to meet Christ in the air at the rapture of the church. Regardless by death or by rapture I want to be found faithful in His sight!

Blessings dear hearts! May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S STRENGTH IS ENOUGH! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S STRENGTH IS ENOUGH!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you, don’t be depressed, I am your God. I will give you My strength to help you, and will hold you up with My righteous right hand.”

When you feel like you have come to the end of your own endurance, trust in God to sustain you. You may also want to recall what Paul recalled about his experience in serving the Lord. He recalls that he was: kidnapped (Acts 21:27), beaten (Acts 21:30-31; 23:3), threatened (Acts 22:22; 27:42), arrested many times (Acts 21:33; 22:24, 31; 23:35; 28:16), accused in lawsuits (Acts 21:34; 22:30; 24:1-2; 25:2, 7; 28:4), interrogated (Acts 25:24-27), ridiculed (Acts 26:24), ignored (Acts 27:11), shipwrecked (Acts 27:41). So how is your day going?!

It is very easy to slip into a pity party for the way we may be treated because we are committed Christians. Can I let you in on a little secret? Many of the things some believers endure are the result of their own actions rather than their walk with the Lord.

As you walk out the door today, make sure you have spent time reading God’s Word and speak with Him as the vital Friend who will be with you in everything you do throughout the day. Just remember that His strength is strong enough for the heaviest load you will have to bear!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
