ANGELS FROM THE REALMS OF GLORY!

Revelation 5:11-12 – Devotional

Revelation 5:11-12

“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!'”

Angels From the Realms of Glory by James Montgomery

Angels, from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story,
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Shepherds, in the fields abiding,
Watching o’er your flocks by night,
God with man is now residing,
Yonder shines the infant light:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great Desire of nations,
Ye have seen his natal star:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Sinners, wrung with true repentance,
Doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence,
Mercy calls you—break your chains:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Though an infant now we view him,
He shall fill his Father’s throne,
Gather all the nations to him;
Every knee shall then bow down:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

All creation, join in praising
God the Father, Spirit, Son,
Evermore your voices raising,
To th’eternal Three in One:

Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! – Matthew 11:28 Devotional

EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Matthew 11:28 – Devotional

Matthew 11:28

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”

At this time of year many invitations are given. Some of them are restricted to employees or family members. In order to respond to the invitation you must in some way be related to the one giving the invitation. Some invitations come with an RSVP that requires a response of your intention to accept or decline.

There are other invitations that may be described as open invitations. Congregations often have Christmas programs that are announced as “Every One Is Welcome!”

Today’s Scripture an invitation is extended directly from Jesus. In a way it is an open invitation. I think each of us have gone through, or are right now going through a time of labor and being heavy laden. We are invited to join Him by taking His yoke upon us. It may seem like we are adding more load, but it is Jesus who will be bearing the burden that we are now carrying alone.

The Lord’s promise is that we will find rest for our souls. In the midst of the pressures of life, we vitally need rest for our souls. We will find it in accepting His open invitation.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

THANK YOU LORD! – Luke 24:38 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

THANK YOU LORD!

Luke 24:38 – Devotional

Luke 24:38

“- – Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts?”

When given the news that his wife would finally in their old age have a son, the father of John the Baptist, doubted. What he had been praying for was about to be Divinely fulfilled – – but he could not believe it!

Before we are too critical of Zacharias, how many times have we prayed for God to do the impossible and then doubt that it would happen? I think if we were honest we would have to say that it is far too often!

I want to interject at this point that I feel many of our prayers are self-centered and selfish. I like to call them; “Make me feel good prayers.” These prayers stray from allowing God to use the circumstances in our life to bring Him glory, to make my way easy so I will feel good! Oops! I just stepped on my own toes!

As I grow older I count each day a blessing from God to be used for His divine purposes. The time we have to do God’s will is limited for all of us. There is never a good time to procrastinate!

At this time of the year when so many people work themselves into a frenzy to do just the right thing, remember that the right thing is always to give God thanks for His precious gift of our Lord Jesus. THANK YOU LORD!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

ALWAYS THE SAME! – Hebrews 13:8 Devotional

ALWAYS THE SAME!

Hebrews 13:8 – Devotional

Hebrews 13:8

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

My parents once owned a café in Camas, Washington, called Kelly’s. I have many fond memories of spending time in and around that place. Sometimes I would help the dish washer, but in reality I was more hindrance than help.

I had told my wife Joyce about it enough times that she was no doubt tired of hearing my stories. After many years we were able to travel to Camas and I could take a stroll down memory lane with my wife. I was able to find my family’s old house and the old church where I had given my heart to the Lord, but my heart saddened when we saw the building where Kelly’s had once been. It was now an insurance agency. Rats!

We often encounter instances where we try to find some favored spot only to discover the use had changed and it was entirely different from the way we remembered it. It is disappointing to have the buildings of our past change, but it is heart breaking to discover that some people have changed for the worse.

In today’s Scripture we have the confident assurance that Jesus is always the same and that He is the rock upon which we are to build our life. In this chaotic world stand firm knowing that Jesus is ALWAYS THE SAME!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GROWING IN THE LORD! – Isaiah 46:4 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GROWING IN THE LORD!

Isaiah 46:4 – Devotional

Isaiah 46:4

“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you.”

I once read an article that mentioned an elderly man. I was stunned to read that the man was two years younger me. If he was categorized as an elderly man, what does that make me? I guess the answer is in the eyes of the beholder!

My mom used to have a rental property behind her house. A widower lived there and she always referred to him as the old man. One day I challenged her by reminding her that he was three years younger than she was. Oops!

When I observe people who appear to be about 35, I wonder, at what point are they no longer considered young people? That is a tough question. In our modern age of youth worship, many hold onto a depiction of a young person until it screams!

Can I let you in on a little secret? It is okay to allow yourself to mature (that’s a kind word for getting old). We need the experience and solidity that comes with experience. Many people in Scripture found the greatest blessing in their latter years. I have come to the conclusion that age must not limit our effective ministry. We need to put our shoulder to the wheel and be more effect in serving Jesus each and every day.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
