1 Peter 3:15

“Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and always be ready to answer anyone who asks for a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

Everyone encounters unexpected emergencies in their daily life. As believers we are expected to react in a more positive way than unbelievers. The reason for our positive outlook is that we that our future in eternity with the Lord is assured. Without a firm spiritual foundation that is based on the truth of God’s Word, we will find ourselves adrift in the sea of confusion.

There is another aspect of preparedness that I want to briefly touch upon today. “BE PREPARED TO BE MEEK!” We prepare to be meek by yielding to the work of the Holy Spirit in our life. Not our will; but the Lord’s will that is all important!

God has called us to be His witnesses and spread the gospel around the world, but we are told to be wise in the manner in which we share the message. Notice that this passage mentions that sharing must be done with “…meekness and fear.”

To me, this meekness and fear implies that we be sensitive to those open hearts which are around us. We must also witness to the lost by the life we live as much, or even more than the words we speak. As the old railroad crossing signs said: STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN, then proceed with caution as we share.

Genesis 15:6

“Abraham believed in the LORD and the LORD credited it to Abraham as righteousness.”

I have been spending some of my Bible reading time in the Book of James. It is a “rubber meets the road” book that challenges the reader to act on faith, not just give lip service.

It reminds me of the adage that we used to hear; “Your actions speak so loud I can’t hear a word you are saying.” Wow! That is still just as powerful as I read it once again as it was the first time I heard it!

It reminds me that our actions are continually under scrutiny. The closer we walk with the Lord the closer people will watch to see if our walk matches our talk. It is sad to say that even in some believer’s lives there is a huge gap between what they preach and what they practice!

I do not want today’s Daily-E-Votional to be a bashing of believers session. I want to remind us that at all times and in all ways we are reflecting the image of what a Christian should be. Believing and doing should mesh together as one!

SAVING FAITH!

James 2:14 – Devotional

James 2:14

“What does it profit, my brothers and sisters, though a person say they have faith, and do not have works? Can just saying they have faith save them?”

In my storage bank of childhood memories I recall playground disputes that arose when someone would boast about what they were able to accomplish. Perhaps you also can recall such confrontations. Often the conflict would end when the one making the boast would be confronted with: “Put up or shut up!”

Perhaps you would not be guilty of such vulgar talk, but I must confess that I seem to feel that attitude when I listen to people, great or small who make loud boasts, but never seem to live up to their own boasting.

Now I want to be quick to state that we never attain eternal salvation as a result of our good works, but being born-again must of necessity display works of righteousness.

If your walk with the Lord is not exemplified by a life that reflects His image, you need to check your spiritual birth certificate. Are you truly in possession of saving faith? It is only to be attained by being born again! Read John 3:16 and make it your own!
