THE PRACTICE OF PATIENCE! – James 5:7a Devotional

THE PRACTICE OF PATIENCE!

James 5:7a – Devotional

James 5:7a

“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord.”

It seems like we are living in such an instant age, that the mere mention of patience flies in the face of our way of life. We have instant coffee, tea, pudding, mashed potatoes, instant everything! So many things in our modern world are designed to save time, effort and energy, yet they have failed! In the face of all of the short-cuts and labor saving devices it seems as if we have less time for the important things in life than ever before.

The answer lies in the Word of God. In all of our efforts, we have totally failed to develop the proper discipline of patience. We do not desire to wait, or slow down for anything. We are so busy making things happen, that we leave no room for that “quiet time” of waiting to see what God is going to bring across our path.

We need to practice the discipline of patience. Practicing the discipline of patience will allow us to relax and look forward to the delays in life. It also gives God a chance to reveal Himself to us and show us a better way to live.

As we spend more quality time with God, life becomes more ordered and the stress level is greatly reduced. Patience is relaxing in the Lord and letting Him direct our paths! Try it!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

A NEW CREATION! – 2 Corinthians 5:17 Devotional

A NEW CREATION!

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Devotional

2 Corinthians 5:17

“If any person is in Christ, that person is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold new things have come.”

Life never stays the same. That can either be for the good or for the bad. If we are growing and maturing in the Lord, it is good. If we are sinking into the mire of sin and degradation, it is bad. Which direction are you heading?

Years ago I served over 15 years of ministry as Pastor of the Summit Lake Community Church, in Olympia, Washington, after. When I resigned to devote full time to the Daily-E-Votional, I had no idea of it growing into a worldwide ministry. You who read this are a part of this unique, cyberspace congregation.

I view this new area of ministry as God’s plan and provision. You are welcome to be a part. The signs are all around us that the coming of the Lord is near. My desire is to keep on keeping on as the Lord gives me the strength.

Ask the Lord to show you what you can do to be more productive in allowing His power and strength to flow through you to others. You may think that you have little to offer the Lord, but when we give our all to Him, He makes our little significant in His work! The time is short and what we do for the Lord needs to be accomplished now! Be that new creature for Christ!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

CONFIDENT FAITH! – Job 19:25 Devotional

CONFIDENT FAITH!

Job 19:25 – Devotional

Job 19:25

“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and in the last day He shall stand upon the earth.”

We are told that the book of Job is one of the oldest books in the Bible. It is not known who the author is, but the truth presented in this precious book is worthy of our consideration.

I have read the entire book of Job at least once each year for many years, and without fail I discover new truth each time I read it. Above all it is a constant reminder that we can always trust in the righteous presence of the Lord, even when our life is filled with chaos and pain.

There is one other truth that we need to keep in mind as we read this book. Just because someone is experiencing trials in their life does not mean they have sinned!

There is truth in that sin results in suffering and pain, but it is not true that all suffering and pain is the result of sin. Rain falls on both the righteous and the unrighteous. It is how we react to the suffering in our life that reveals our true faith in God! I trust that my reaction to the pains I experience will show that Jesus is all I need!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BE THE SALT! – Mark 9:50b Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BE THE SALT!

Mark 9:50b – Devotional

Mark 9:50b

“Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

Salt across the centuries has had many uses. It was used to preserve and season foods and for its medicinal qualities. In Roman times the soldiers were paid in salt. That is where the word salary came from. When you hear the expression “he’s not worth his salt” it refers to the payment in salt that was received.

I once heard a preacher use a wonderful illustration. He said something like this: “While it is true that you can lead a horse to water, you can’t make him drink — but you can salt his oats!” I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I have thought of that illustration since first hearing it.

Some of us in Christian ministry wear ourselves out trying to force people to drink when they show no inclination to want to drink. We may even heap on guilt or dire predictions of consequences, but there are still no slurping sounds.

What is the answer? SALT THE OATS! Right! How do we do that? We do it by creating a desire for more of the reality of God’s Word. Are we salting the oats of those we minister to? Are we creating such a desire that people thirst to drink from God’s well that never runs dry?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
