WONDERFUL PEACE! – John 14:27 Devotional

WONDERFUL PEACE!

John 14:27 – Devotional

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you,
My peace I give to you: not as the world gives do I give I to you.
Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We seem to be constantly bombarded with the talk of peace. As a young boy I recall pictures of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain waving a document in his hand and saying he had just met with Adolf Hitler and had secured a promise of peace. His words were, “I have returned from Germany with peace for our time.”

The sad reality was that the world was soon to be exposed to the horrible reality of a war waged by a mad man who intentionally tried to exterminate Jews and other ethnic groups. There was no peace then or now!

From the day that Adam and Eve sinned and were evicted from the garden there has been strife, conflicts and wars. For all of the rhetoric about attaining peace we are no closer to world peace, nor will we ever be until Jesus comes again. What a fantastic day it will be when there is eternal peace — Wonderful Peace.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

WONDERFUL PEACE

Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial strains it unceasingly falls
O’er my soul like an infinite calm.

Refrain: Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!

I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control;
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul!

Refrain: Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!

Ah, soul! are you here without comfort and rest,
Marching down the rough pathway of time?
Make Jesus your Friend ere the shadows grow dark;
O accept of this peace so sublime!

Refrain: Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!

HELD SECURELY BY THE LORD! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

HELD SECURELY BY THE LORD!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be discouraged for I am your God – – I will hold you securely in My righteous right hand.”

The comic strip character, Snoopy, was always trying to write the great American novel. As he pecked away on his typewriter, he imagined himself to be a world-famous author. His opening line never changed: It was a dark and stormy night.

I recall a dark night that was not stormy as far as the weather was concerned, but stormy with danger and injury. Our car had over-turned while being towed behind a wrecker. Our son was badly injured and the tow truck driver took my wife and three kids to the hospital, leaving me behind with our wrecked automobile.

In the darkness I only had a flashlight to warn on-coming traffic that they were approaching an accident scene. It was just a short time later when two shady looking characters stopped — not to assist me, but to help themselves. As they circled around the damaged vehicle, I overheard one say that there was nothing of value to them. They went back to their car and quickly drove off into the night.

I am convinced that the Lord was holding me securely on that dark and potentially stormy night. He always has been there when I needed Him. Thank you Lord!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

DELIGHT THE LORD! – 1 Samuel 19:16 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

DELIGHT THE LORD!

1 Samuel 19:16 – Devotional

1 Samuel 19:16

“Does the LORD delight as much in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen for His voice is better than the fat of rams.”

When I was a Juvenile Probation Officer I frequently counseled my probationers to be careful about their actions. Just as frequently they ignored my warnings which subsequently led to their re-arrest and being back in Juvenile Court.

We have often heard the expression “haste makes waste.” This is a truism which has merit. It is also true that being careless leads to waste and chaos. It may not be one’s intention to do something wrong, but careless behavior has consequences.

Many people have made a commitment to serve the Lord with all of their heart, mind, and soul. This is a good starting point, but it is just that. Commitment must be followed up with positive and continuous steps of action.

Have you made promises and then allowed the things of the world to slip in which cause you to become careless? Has your careless disregard of spiritual matters then led to problems in your relationships with God and other people? Make a fresh commitment to the Lord and commit to yourself to delight the Lord!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

HIGH AND LIFTED UP! – Psalm 57:5 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

HIGH AND LIFTED UP!

Psalm 57:5 – Devotional

Psalm 57:5

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth.”

It is easy to become overcome by the sin and degradation that seems to be more and more apparent with each passing moment. I was going to say with each passing day, but the growth of wickedness is much greater than that.

As faithful followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have a choice in the way we live for our Lord. We can survive under the circumstances of life, or we can soar high and lifted up with our Savior and Lord. I CHOOSE TO SOAR!

There are two words that come to mind right now: surviving or thriving. As our Lord has called us to follow Him in all things, we have two choices. We can either throw a spiritual tantrum, or lift our banner high and go forward with assurance!

The closer we come to the moment we are lifted out of this world to be with the Lord, the more fervent we need to be for Him! We may have physical and/or mental limitations this side of paradise, but we will soon be with our Lord! What a day that will be!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PURPOSE! – 2 Timothy 1:9-10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PURPOSE!

2 Timothy 1:9-10 – Devotional

2 Timothy 1:9-10

“He has saved us and called us to a holy life–not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”

PURPOSE!

  • Why am I here?
  • What is the purpose of my existence?
  • Has God given me a reason for being?
  • Do I have an impact on the lives of those in my sphere of influence?
  • Have I seen God at work in the lives of those around me because I was used by the Lord?

These are just a few of the questions we may ask ourselves to determine what God’s purpose is for each of us. I have even counseled people who felt that they had no spiritual purpose in life. Others had gifts and talents, but they had nothing to give, and so they left the work of the Lord up to others.

I once passed a church and saw a man I knew mowing the lawn. When I asked him if the church hired him to mow the lawn, he informed me that they had no idea he was doing it.

He saw a need and performed it.

I discovered that there were a number of elderly people that he also helped out. It was his purpose for those in need.

Your purpose in serving the Lord may not be a ministry such as preaching or teaching.

When the Holy Spirit opens your eyes to some need, no matter how insignificant it may seem, go for it!

Your purpose might seem unimportant to you, but obeying the Lord is vital to being a faithful servant.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
