O COME, ALL YE FAITHFUL!

Luke 2:15 – Devotional

Luke 2:15

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The beloved Carol “O Come, All Ye Faithful” was originally written in Latin (Adeste Fideles). The words were written by an Englishman, John Wade who had originally intended it as a hymn.

The music to “O Come, All Ye Faithful” was composed by fellow Englishman John Reading in the early 1700s. In 1841, Rev. Frederick Oakley revised the lyrics of “Adeste Fideles”.

While it would be an appropriate hymn at any time of the year, it has become a cherished Christmas Carol. Let us all come and adore, Christ the Lord.

O Come, All Ye Faithful

1. O Come All Ye Faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

2. O Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God’s holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

3. All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

LOOK ABOVE THIS WORLD!

Colossians 3:2 – Devotional

Colossians 3:2

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Well educated scientists seemingly have things all figured out. The question arises as to what is it they think they have all figured out, and why does what they have all figured out change on a regular basis?

The answer is that the wisdom of man is subject to the all-knowing mind of Christ who is the blessed creator and sustainer of all things. As long as mankind rejects the truth of God they walk in darkness.

I must confess that there are a vast number of things I do not know, but the things I do not know are insignificant in the realization that the most important thing I do know is that my name is written down in glory and my eternity is assured in the providence of God!

As I am regularly confronted with news concerning the failing health and welfare of friends and family, I have the sweet assurance that the Lord wants me to look above the things of this world and trust Him. When people ask us how to face a dismal future we can with sweet assurance tell them; “LOOK ABOVE THIS WORLD!”

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing.

ONE WAY STREET! – John 14:6 Devotional

ONE WAY STREET!

John 14:6 – Devotional

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father except by me.”

As born-again believers of Jesus Christ, we stand apart from other man-created belief systems. There is no doubt that we are exclusive and demand that there is only one way to eternal salvation.

Before you get your hackles up read once again what Jesus Himself says in today’s Scripture. He is not (a way), (a truth), or (a life). He is the (only way), the (only truth), and the (only life)! To deny that fact and try to replace it with other belief systems is to condemn one’s self to an eternity without God! Don’t go there!

The magnificent gift that Jesus has extended to anyone who will accept His gift is an eternal home in glory. At the beginning of John 14, Jesus assures all believers in Him that He is at this very moment preparing a specially designed home in glory just for us.

To live for Jesus is to recognize that we live on a one-way street that leads directly to our eternal home. Until we get home we have work to do, so let us never get weary in working for Jesus with joy and rejoicing!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing.

REMEMBER! – Deuteronomy 32:7 Devotional

REMEMBER!

Deuteronomy 32:7 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 32:7

Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.

Back in the 1950’s, Dinah Shore was a popular vocalist. One of her popular hits was the song, “You Forgot To Remember!” I can’t recall the words, but the title is easy to recall. It sounds like a contradiction, but it is all to true of many of us.

Promises are far easier to make than to fulfill. There have been several times in my life when those who I trusted broke promises that were made. The result caused pain and suffering for me personally, but also to my family.

I can honestly say that I have come to see that whether I have little of this world’s stuff or more than enough, it is not mine! It is only given to me to be used by the Lord for His purposes. In order to discover what His purposes are, I must spend time with the Lord by the study of His Word and prayer!

Remember that the Lord inhabits His Word and the praise of His people! It is far too easy to be blinded by the glitz and glamour of the world. Take time to search for the things of eternal value. Remember He first loved us! Return His love!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing.

WALK THE TALK! – 2 John 1:6 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

WALK THE TALK!

2 John 1:6 – Devotional

2 John 1:6

And this is love that we walk after His commandments. This is the commandment, that, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

One of the saddest commentaries on so-called followers of Christ is that they are on again and off again believers. We used to call them, “Sunday-go-to-meeting-believers.” They were one thing in church and another thing in the world!

That is painful even to type it, and I know it breaks the heart of our Lord to have those He paid such an extravagant price for, fail to live the life He freely gives to all who will receive it.

Before we become too smug in our condemnation of the two-faced believers, take a long look into the mirror of God’s Word. Are we preaching one sermon yet living another? Does our walk match our talk?

Like it or not we are preaching sermons moment by moment by the way we live our life. Our actions always speak so loud that our words become nothing but a soft whisper. WALK THE TALK!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing.
