HIS PRESENCE! – Psalm 139:7 Devotional

HIS PRESENCE!

Psalm 139:7 – Devotional

Psalm 139:7

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?”

Across the years I have had the privilege of experiencing a variety of professions. One of the most memorable was working as a County Juvenile Probation Officer. I had come into the position directly from serving as a city police officer, so I was well acquainted with the patrol officers who worked the night shift.

I frequently rode with one of the officers as he made his rounds and would occasionally spot a juvenile who was part of my caseload. I would note the time, location, and who else was with him. Many times the probationer was on a court-ordered curfew along with a list of individuals not to associate with.

The next time that probationer reported in I would ask if they were adhering to their curfew. The response was usually that they were. I would then ask about the day and time I had observed them. Their look of astonishment was priceless. I would then proceed to take the necessary action that was merited. It wasn’t long before they felt like I was everywhere and they had better keep on the straight and narrow.

In today’s Scripture we see that the Lord is everywhere and He knows all about us. There are no time-outs when it comes to living for the Lord. He knows each and everything about us. That is not a bad thing but is a constant reminder that He is always there when we call. Praise the Lord!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

ALERT DUTY! – Psalm 37:34 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

ALERT DUTY!

Psalm 37:34 – Devotional

Psalm 37:34

“Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.”

When I was in the military there were times when I was assigned to “Alert Duty.” What that implied, was that those of us who were on duty were not sleep, but were to maintain a constant state of readiness. We few would be tasked to alert the other members of the unit who would then spring into action.

In today’s Scripture, the psalmist is calling us to take on the assignment of being on alert. We are to be the watchmen (watchwomen) who keep our eyes open to the threats of the enemy.

Not only are we called to be alert to spiritual danger, but we are also to be aware of the leading of the Lord. When He is working in our midst, we need to rush to His side in order to respond to His call.

Are you on Alert Duty for the Lord? Are you spiritually aware of what God is doing in your midst in order to join with Him in bringing about His purposes? Now is the time to shake off the spiritual slumber and be alert.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

HEED THE CALL! – Revelation 3:2 Devotional

HEED THE CALL!

Revelation 3:2 – Devotional

Revelation 3:2

“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God.”

Back in the 1950’s I was a jet aircraft mechanic in the US Air Force. I left for work early in the morning and spent an exhausting day at my job. Many times after dinner I would lie down for a nap. Meanwhile, my wife Joyce had been alone all day eagerly awaiting our spending quality time together.

One evening as I was enjoying my sweet catnap, I heard those feared words, “Cec! Wake up! Your ride is here!” In a panic I pulled on my work uniform and was heading for the door when I saw her rolling with laughter! It cured me of napping after dinner!

There is no doubt that we live in a world that is being pulled more and more into a sense of spiritual lethargy. There is little emphasis on personal evangelism and far less on individual spiritual growth. The result is lukewarm or dead churches.

Being loud and animated does nothing to cover the reality of spiritual death. Many of our modern churches have seemingly been more concerned with the show than the substance. I think it is safe to say that many who whoop and yell in church fail to spend any quality time in prayer and Bible study. Jesus called for all true believers to wake up while there is still time. Will you hear and heed the call?

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

LEARNING TO LEAN! – Proverbs 3:5-6 Devotional

LEARNING TO LEAN!

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Devotional

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

I have had the DELIGHTFUL (I mean that sarcastically) experience of being struck with shingles. No, not the kind you put on your roof to keep out the rain, but the medical condition.

Most times a case of shingles produces blisters and extreme pain. I had that to some extent, but unfortunately my strain took a more sinister turn and went into the nerves of my left leg. It caused me to lose the feeling in that leg and resort to crutches until the condition ran its course.

During that time of pain and paralysis I learned more and more to depend upon the Lord. I was to face even more situations that would force me to lean heavily upon the Lord. Loss physically, financially, emotionally or the death of a loved one forces us to lean on the One who is always there and never fails.

If you are leaning on finances or others as your support, that may be fine. I am here to remind you that those resources may not always be there for you. On the other hand, the Lord Jesus Christ is here now and always. Jesus never fails!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and be a blessing!
