OUR ETERNAL HOME! – 2 Corinthians 5:2 Devotional

OUR ETERNAL HOME!

2 Corinthians 5:2 – Devotional

2 Corinthians 5:2

“We groan earnestly as we strive to be clothed with our eternal home which is in heaven.”

I think it is safe to say that most of us have had close calls with death. Even those who are the most cautious about taking risks can remember a near miss. My past experience in law enforcement and the military at times brought me close to eternity. I have listened to stories of deep sea fishermen and pilots that made me wonder how they escaped death.

The apostle Paul was a tent-maker by trade. I can almost visualize his calloused fingers and hands. In today’s Scripture, Paul uses his profession as a tent-maker to illustrate a spiritual truth: This human body of ours is not going to survive. There are those who try to reverse the aging process in various ways, but nothing is going to keep us from coming to the end of our life and entering eternity.

It is sad that most of us spend too much time and effort on things that will pass away. By spending so much time on earthly things, we neglect the things that really count—those things that have eternal value. Receiving Christ as our personal Savior is vital to prepare for eternity. Spending time with God in prayer and reading His Word will prepare us for that heavenly home that will never pass away. Which home are you spending your time and effort to build?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

SPIRITUAL FRUIT! – Galatians 5:22-23 Devotional

SPIRITUAL FRUIT!

Galatians 5:22-23 – Devotional

Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

It is that special time of year when the fruit ripens on the trees—sweet, delicious, and ready to eat. It makes my mouth water just thinking of a perfectly ripe and juicy peach! I know, however, that in just a few short weeks the weather will turn bitterly cold and throughout the months of winter, the tree that now produces such tasty fruit will stand stark and bare, empty of its delicious produce.

God promises us a fruit of the Spirit that never passes away! The fruit that we read about in today’s Scripture is a fruit that meets the deepest needs of the human soul. It is fruit that produces life.

Years ago I was teaching a Sociology class at Boise State University. With about 120 indifferent students staring at me, I gave them their first assignment — to write the three things they desired most in their life. To be sure, there were a few ridiculous answers, but a wide majority listed the first three fruits of the Spirit: LOVE, JOY, PEACE.

People seek these attributes in many different ways, but the fruit that God promises will always produce a spirit that brings comfort.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR RIGHTEOUS LORD! – Psalm 11:7 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

OUR RIGHTEOUS LORD!

Psalm 11:7 – Devotional

Psalm 11:7

“The LORD is totally righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright in heart.”

We live is a wicked and fallen world. It is easy for us to become overwhelmed by all of the violence and needless suffering that surrounds us. But in the midst of all of the ugliness we are able to have a light that shines bright and true.

It is vital for us to remember that the darker the night the brighter our light will shine. Does that mean that we are happy about the evil and darkness? Not on your life. The darkness and evil are the natural consequence of our fallen state.

I am so happy that we serve a Lord who loves us so much that He became one of us to demonstrate His love for us and to pay the price for our redemption that only He could pay.

Our righteous Lord became sin in our place that we might receive His gift of eternal love and an eternity with Him in glory. In this world we may be faced with sin and evil, but we serve a Lord whose blood has overcome our fatal condition. His righteousness may be beyond our ability to describe, but I can hardly wait to experience it with Him forever!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
