THE CRITICAL TEST!

1 John 1:5-7 – Devotional

1 John 1:5-7

“This is the message we have heard from Him and declare unto you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.”

THE SANDS OF ETERNITY! – Ecclesiastes 3:11 Devotional

THE SANDS OF ETERNITY!

Ecclesiastes 3:11 – Devotional

Ecclesiastes 3:11

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Years ago I heard a minister tell of an incident in a hospital elevator where he had just come from visiting a very ill patient. A young man overheard him speak about eternity and, perhaps wanting to mock his view, asked the minister where eternity was. The minister told the boy to place his hand on his chest to feel the beat of his heart. “Young man, eternity is one heartbeat away!” That may answer where eternity is or at least how close we are to it, but just how long is eternity?

Our daughter was in the hospital near death. One afternoon as the two of us spoke quietly, she said she felt she was cheated out of half of her life. She went on to say that Grandpa was 74 when he died and here she was just 35.

That evening as I drove into the garage I noticed that the car had been bringing in sand. I took out a sheet of typing paper and swept up some of the sand. I then sat at the kitchen table and counted out 74 grains. Some were larger than others, but all of them were quite small. I placed the 74 grains of sand in a tiny sample perfume bottle.

The next day as I entered her room I placed the bottle on her bed. When she asked what it was I told her it was Grandpa. I asked her to imagine the earth being nothing but fine sand. Each grain represented one year of eternity. The 74 grains in the bottle represented Grandpa’s life. Compared to the entire globe of sand it was nothing. Whether a person’s life lasted long or short, compared to eternity it was nothing.

It is what we do with the years we are given that matters. We can choose to confess our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior or we can continue our own willful way and suffer the dreadful consequences prepared for the lost.

DWELLING IN THE WORD! – Colossians 3:16 Devotional

DWELLING IN THE WORD!

Colossians 3:16 – Devotional

Colossians 3:16

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

I have a question for each follower of Christ: How can the word of Christ dwell in us if we fail to spend quality time reading His word? I know that some have difficulty reading, but it takes only a few minutes to read several verses.

Stop for just a few minutes and reflect on how you spend your time. I think that perhaps a better question may be: How do we invest our time. When we make an investment we anticipate a good return. In the same manner we can anticipate a positive return for the time we spend feasting on God’s Word

Make a promise to the Lord that you will spend time each day reading your Bible. It may be a promise of five minutes or even more, but make it a priority that you will faithfully adhere to.

As God’s Word dwells more and more in our inmost being, we will increasingly be able to have a positive effect on those around us. Let us make a commitment to change our environment with promises from the Word of God instead of grumbling about how bad things are around us.

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

PRIDE TO PITY! – 2 Chronicles 26:16 Devotional

PRIDE TO PITY!

2 Chronicles 26:16 – Devotional

2 Chronicles 26:16

“After Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.”

In Scripture there are two wonderful examples of men whose hearts stayed true to the Lord throughout their lives – – Joseph and Daniel. It was because of their humility. Regrettably, there are many examples in the Bible who started out as God’s heroes, but ended up as God’s zeroes. It was because of their pride. Consider Saul and Samson. Sadly, we must include Uzziah.

As long as Uzziah sought the Lord, he was able to be God’s man in leading Judah to subdue her enemies. But somewhere along the line, he began to think that it was his own ability that brought victory. That is always the beginning of the end for anyone. His success caused him to take his eyes off of the Lord and on himself. Let’s face it – -He blew it!

Our modern-day church scene is littered by the wreckage of ministers who started out with humility and total commitment to the Lord, but came to destruction when they grew popular and failed to rely totally on the Lord.

I have no idea what was in Uzziah’s mind when he entered the temple to offer incense to the Lord. I do know the consequences of his action—leprosy! Failing to rely on the Lord doomed him to a life of humiliation and separation. You have to feel sorry for this man who started with such great promise, but ended with such shame—FROM PRIDE TO PITY!

DO’S AND DON’TS! – 1 Thessalonians 5:17-22 Devotional

DO’S AND DON’TS!

1 Thessalonians 5:17-22 – Devotional

1 Thessalonians 5:17-22

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesy. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.”

Paul challenged the church at Thessalonica, as well as for all of us, to live a life that separates us from the rest of the world. We are not to blend in and become a part of, but rather we are to stand up and stand out for Christ!

Paul lists three things we are not to do: 1. Quench not the Spirit. 2. Despise not prophesy. 3. Abstain from all appearance of evil. How well are we doing in this regard? Let’s take time to evaluate our conduct in light of this admonition.

There are five positive qualities that Paul encourages us to pursue: 1. Rejoice evermore. 2. Pray without ceasing. 3. In everything give thanks. 4. Prove all things. 5. Hold fast that which is good.

I encourage each of us to spend time honestly evaluating our life to determine these; do’s and don’ts. It will become a blessing to ourselves as well as to those around us.
