THE EAGLE!

Deuteronomy 32:11-12 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 32:11-12

“As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young,
spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, so the Lord alone led him, and there was no foreign god with him.”

A few years ago, I was watching a web camera focused on an eagle’s nest in Sydney, B. C., Canada. There were three eaglets in the nest. I was enthralled as I sat at my computer and observed the drama in the nest.

Once, as I watched, a marauder (another eagle), swept down on the nest. In the blink of an eye he made off with the remains of a seagull that the mother eagle had been shredding and feeding to her hungry brood.

A video replay of the attack demonstrated how quickly it happened. The mother seemed to be aware that the intruder was near, but was more concerned for the safety of her chicks than for the scraps of seagull. It was a matter of priorities. Prior to the attack, she had laboriously herded her brood under the safety of her wings. The largest eaglet was especially difficult to control. He kept trying to get out from under her wings and do his own thing, unaware of the danger to his life.

How very much we are like that willful chick. We want to do our own thing with little or no thought of the consequences of our actions. The Lord desires to cover us with His protective wings, but we fight with all our might to escape. Then when we fall into the clutches of our enemy, we wonder why God was not there to protect us.

We need to come under the protective wings of the Lord before the marauder strikes. The Lord loves us and wants to cover us with his protective wings. Whatever is happening in your life at the present time, realize that His wings are there to cover and protect you.

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD! – James 4:8 Devotional

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD!

James 4:8 – Devotional

James 4:8

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

My Dad was an encourager and was always there to insure that I was striving to be the man God wanted me to be. He stressed that after he was gone I would hold fast to the Gospel and point people in the direction of the cross. I yearn for the day when I will see my Dad once again, but even more so I yearn for the day when I will meet my Savior face to face.

Our current pandemic is not the first such disaster. In the early years of the 20th Century there was an outbreak of diphtheria in the U.S. that claimed many lives. In 1903 Cleland McAfee was chaplain and choir director at Park College in Parkville, Missouri. As the epidemic swept the area, two of his nieces died from the dreaded disease and the others in the household were quarantined. In Cleland’s hour of grief he wrote the hymn NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD and brought the college choir to sing it outside the house.

If you are passing through the valley of the shadow of death right now – – I know that each of us will at some time in our life – – let the words of this hymn bring the quiet assurance we need.

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD

1. There is a place of quiet rest, Near to the heart of God.
A place where sin cannot molest, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer, Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee, Near to the heart of God.

2. There is a place of comfort sweet, Near to the heart of God.
A place where we our Savior meet, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer, Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee, Near to the heart of God.

3. There is a place of full release, Near to the heart of God.
A place where all is joy and peace, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer, Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee, Near to the heart of God.

POUR IT IN! – Colossians 3:16-17 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

POUR IT IN!

Colossians 3:16-17 – Devotional

Colossians 3:16-17

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

In one of the churches I served I was helping to staff Bible classes. One teacher came with high credentials. After the first few weeks I was speaking with a man who attended that teacher’s class. He mentioned that when the Bible material was being taught it was like his head was opened and God’s Word was being poured in!

Wow! I thought that was the highest evaluation that could be given. I have so wanted to labor for the Lord in such a way that the hearts and minds of my hearers or readers would be opened and the pure Word of God poured in!

The first words of today’s Scripture seem to have this same concept: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you….” In order to have the Word of God dwell within us we must spend time in the Word.

How much time do we spend each day with the Bible? How much time do we spend each week? That gets pretty embarrassing doesn’t it? Some people go weeks or even months without reading their Bible.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
