ONLY FRESH WATER! – James 3:10-12 Devotional

ONLY FRESH WATER!

James 3:10-12 – Devotional

James 3:10-12

“Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.

“Is that milk fresh?” Many times have we heard that question being asked and quite often it is followed by someone taking a sip of the milk that is in question. The response provides the answer: “Yuck!” Means it is sour and a smile indicates that it is fresh.

I often wonder about the freshness of our life? When people spend time around us are they prone to feel that same expression, yuck! I hope there’s a smile on their face such as follows a satisfying swig of sweet fresh milk!

We are told that when we are born again we are new creatures. The problem is all too often people do not live like new creatures but continue with habits and associations of the past. Like James says in today’s Scripture; “… these things ought not to be so.”

It is time to evaluate our spiritual life and determine whether it is fresh or sour.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

MEDITATE ON GOD’S WORD! – Psalm 1:1-2 Devotional

MEDITATE ON GOD’S WORD!

Psalm 1:1-2 – Devotional

Psalm 1:1-2

“Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law he meditates day and night.

Godless meditation scares the wits out of me. Modern-day gurus advise us to clear our mind of everything in order to find inner peace. Yikes! That practice gives unguarded entry to demonic forces of every sort. STAY AWAY FROM IT!

God does want us to meditate, but there is a difference. In today’s Scripture the Psalmist begins the book of Psalms by introducing us to God’s type of meditation. It is not the mind clearing sort of stuff, but the God-indwelling type.

It begins with the way we are to behave. The psalmist says we are to stay away from the godless sinners around us. The first step to godly meditation is a true walk with God. If we are not walking with God, we cannot have communion with Him.

If we walk in harmony with the Lord, we are called to meditate on His Word day and night. There is the key — it is not a blank mind, but rather a mind that is full of the Word of God and applying it to our life. Are you meditating correctly?

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

BE OF GOOD CHEER! – John 16:33 Devotional

BE OF GOOD CHEER!

John 16:33 – Devotional

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

I have to confess that I have a problem with so-called faith healers who profit from those who are going through a time of testing.

They leave individuals feeling guilty if they are not healed because their faith is just not strong enough.

Many were healed by Jesus—Lazarus was even raised from the dead—yet all eventually died. So we conclude that healing at best is only temporary this side of eternity.

In today’s Scripture we read that Jesus offers good cheer. We fail miserably if we miss the full impact of this passage. The good cheer that Jesus offers comes in the midst of tribulation.

The Greek word for the phrase good cheer is tharseo. Of course, it means good cheer, but it also means to be of good courage.

Jesus used this same word when he healed the man of palsy, the woman with the issue of blood for many years, to his disciples when they were scared out of their skins as they saw him walking on the water, and to Paul following his arrest in Jerusalem.

Jesus never said that He was going to take his believers out of the storms and trials of life, but that He would be with them during those storms. He offers that for us today.

We never need to go through the conflict alone—He has promised that He would send the Holy Spirit to be with us and support us with victory.

It really does not matter what kind of pain you are experiencing at this very moment, Jesus offers you the most wonderful words of comfort: “Be of good cheer.”

Claim it as your own at this very moment. He will be with you.

Blessings dear hearts. Walk with God today and be a blessing! And be of good cheer!

WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER! – Revelation 21:27 Devotional

WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER!

Revelation 21:27 – Devotional

Revelation 21:27

“But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

In 1893, James Black was a Methodist Sunday school teacher in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. As he was calling roll one day for a youth meeting, young Bessie, daughter of a drunkard, did not show up, and he was disappointed at her failure to appear. He commented to a friend, “Well, I trust when the roll is called up yonder, she’ll be there.” He tried to find an appropriate song for the situation but could not find one in his song book.

Here is how Mr. Black describes how he came to write the hymn: “This lack of a fitting song caused me both sorrow and disappointment. An inner voice seemed to say, ‘Why don’t you write one?’ I put away the thought. As I opened the gate on my way home, the same thought came again so strongly that tears filled my eyes. I entered the house and sat down at the piano. The words came to me effortlessly…The tune came the same way—I dared not change a single note or word.”

When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder

(1) When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Refrain: When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll, is called up yonder,
When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.

(2) On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise,
And the glory of His resurrection share;
When His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Refrain: When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.

(3) Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun,
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;
Then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Refrain: When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll, is called up yonder,
When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.
