IN THE WRONG PLACE!

Numbers 31:8b – Devotional

Numbers 31:8b

” . . . they also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.

We sometimes hear the expression; “He (or she) was in the wrong place at the wrong time.” It implies that the person was doing something that was not what they should have been doing. I think most of us have been there one time or another.

In case your mind has forgotten about this man, Balaam, he was a Midianite whom the enemies of Israel had paid to curse them. God prevented him to curse, but instead he blessed them.

After blessing Israel several times, he supposedly returned to his own country. Beep! Sadly he remained and encouraged the Midianites who had hired him to seduce the people of Israel sexually. Seduction has a long history doesn’t it!

It is vital for the people of God to remain close to God by earnestly seeking Him by prayer and the study of His Word. Remember the words of that old hymn; “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey!” Make sure you are in God’s right place!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

REMEMBER FORMER DAYS! – Ecclesiastes 12:1 Devotional

REMEMBER FORMER DAYS!

Ecclesiastes 12:1 – Devotional

Ecclesiastes 12:1

“Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them.

Yesterday I enjoyed lunch with a couple I have known for many years. It was a joy to recall days gone by. The older we get the more we have to remember. Some memories are sweet and precious, but others bring a pang to the heart.

We reflected on days gone by and soon began to reflect on the brevity of life and how we need to take advantage of every day the Lord has given us.

My wife, Joyce and I celebrated 62 years of marriage and many other precious times. Most of those memories are filled with joy, but there were other anniversaries that brought tears to our eyes. The anniversary of the passing of our daughter Brenda was one of these. Joyce would always light a candle on the anniversary of Brenda’s passing.

The hardest part in reflecting on former days is that we have a difficult time viewing life with eternity in view. Where there is now an emptiness we need to look forward to being with our loved ones again! Until then let us increase our efforts to serve Jesus with whole hearted enthusiasm!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR SURE REWARD! – Proverbs 11:18 Devotional

OUR SURE REWARD!

Proverbs 11:18 – Devotional

Proverbs 11:18

“A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.

Down through the days of my life I have received far more rewards than I honestly do not feel I have deserved. There are also a few times I must confess that I feel I have been slighted after I have sacrificed to give a meaningful gift.

It is at these times I am reminded that I am responsible for continually offering my praise to the Lord in heaven for the multitude of blessings I have received. My aim is to spend the remainder of my days giving glory.

As believers, we have been given the greatest of all gifts that could ever be given, the gift of eternal life. It is mind-boggling to contemplate the glorious eternity that awaits every born-again believer. It is our sure and certain reward!

With our reward waiting for us, we need to re-double our efforts to share this wonderful truth with others. Instead of looking like we have just been baptized in vinegar, we need to appear as if we have just tasted a spoon full of honey. Since we have a sure reward waiting for us, let us share the sweetness with others!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

WHY AM I HERE? – Romans 15:13 Devotional

WHY AM I HERE?

Romans 15:13 – Devotional

Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Well, I find myself at odds with one of the well-known ministers of our day. In recent weks a few readers have forwarded comments made by this man which give his response to the question: “What is the purpose of life?” Here is what he replied: “In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity.”

That response just did not sit well with me (as with some of this other comments). it is easy to make comments, but it is another thing to support one’s comments with Scripture.

As I meditated on what is our real purpose in life, I recalled one of the most fundamental questions contained in the WEstminster Shorter Catechism:

Q: What is the chief end of man?

A: Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.

Simply living life in order to prepare for eternity leaves many gaps. It places undue focus on our own interests rather than upon the Lord Himself. If our chief aim is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, we will spend time in His Word, inquiring of Him what His will is for our life.

Yes, it is preparation for eternity, but we are not the important part of the equation. He is our all in all; our eternity begins the moment we are born again and have our name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. That is our real purpose for being here!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
