Deuteronomy 11:26-28 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 11:26-28

“I am setting before you this day both a blessing and a curse. JUST AS I AM! – Ephesians 2:8-9 Devotional

JUST AS I AM!

Ephesians 2:8-9 – Devotional

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I suppose many of us have heard humorous stories about someone approaching the gates of heaven and being required to prove that their actions on earth merited entry into God’s heavenly kingdom. Beep! Wrong answer!

A person may do amazingly good works here on earth and still miss heaven. It is not what we do for God that determines where we will spend eternity—it is what He has done for us. When we repent of our sins and accept Him as Savior and Lord then—and only then—is our name written down in glory.

The writer of this week’s hymn, Charlotte Elliot, was offended when someone asked her if she was a Christian. She told him to mind his own business. Later as she was contemplating his question, she began to wonder what it took to become a Christian. She called him and he explained to her the plan of salvation which she accepted. It was then that she wrote this hymn, “Just As I Am.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Just As I Am

Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need in Thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Hath broken every barrier down;
Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, of that free love
The breadth, length, depth, and height to prove,
Here for a season, then above,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

BY FAITH ALONE! – Galatians 3:2 Devotional

BY FAITH ALONE!

Galatians 3:2 – Devotional

Galatians 3:2

“This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

I remember working with my dad building houses. Sometimes when we were fitting pieces of framing together, the ends might be a fraction of an inch off. I would hear my dad say, “Close enough.” I fear that many people are prone to apply that same attitude to their spiritual lives.

Just what is close enough in the spiritual realm? The answer is perfection. The second question is; whose perfection? It is certainly not ours. I have known thousands of people in my life and not one of them was or is perfect.

Do you think you can be good enough to make it to heaven? Most unsaved people will answer “Yes.” On the authority of God’s word we know that it is impossible to be good enough to assure an entrance into heaven!

It is not our own perfection that we need, but the perfection of Christ. He paid it all in our behalf. We can never be good enough in ourselves, but Jesus was good enough for all of us. By faith alone we need Him to provide us with salvation.

GOD’S PRECIOUS PROMISES! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S PRECIOUS PROMISES!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness.

When you reach the age of 90, as I did a few weeks ago, it seems like memories become more and more precious. Rather than wish for the “good ole days!” I look forward to the days of eternity that are beyond description!

As a boy one of the first verses I memorized was Isaiah 41:10. Since the day I first set it to memory, I have claimed it as my very own. In the darkest days of my life I have been comforted by these precious words.

It is impossible for me to know what anyone else is going through at a particular moment, but God knows what each of us is going through. Not only that, He knows what we have already gone through and what lies ahead for us.

I find His precious promises a great comfort knowing I can trust in Him no matter what lies ahead. I choose to trust and rely on God’s precious promises rather than the sinking sand of this sin-filled world!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
