ABIDING LOVE! – 1 John 4:15 Devotional

ABIDING LOVE!

1 John 4:15 – Devotional

1 John 4:15

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Saving faith is far different than a mere “hope so faith,” that is shallow and based upon feeling rather than the eternal and abiding Word of God. For almost all of my life I have rested in the reality that God’s Word says it, I believe it – – that settles it!

Back in my days as a Juvenile Probation Officer, the Judge I worked for told me that the juveniles I supervised would lie even when it would be easier for them to tell the truth. I thought he was just being cynical, but I learned he was right!

The words that flow from our mouth may confess that Jesus is the Lord of our life, but are they only words? True faith is far more than mere words. True faith can be left standing when our world seems to crumble.

I have relied on Psalm 23:4 at the most devastating moments in my life and have found it true; “Yes, even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me.” Praise the Lord His abiding love has always been with me and will always be with me!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

SAFE! – Psalm 119:116-117 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

SAFE!

Psalm 119:116-117 – Devotional

Psalm 119:116-117

“Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; and do not let me be ashamed of my hope. Hold me up, and I shall be safe, and I shall observe Your statutes continually.

When I hear the word “safe” I often imagine a baseball game where the runner slides into home plate while the umpire stands ready to render the verdict as to whether the runner was tagged “out” or was called “safe.”

There are other thoughts that crowd into my mind about being safe. If you have ever been in a small boat on a rough body of water and finally enter a sheltered cove, you would know that you were now safe from the waves.

There are many more circumstances of life when we escape a dangerous episode to a safe place. I guess we could say that this life that we live is a series of dangerous events that threaten us. We need a safe haven, don’t we?

The Psalmist assures us that our safe haven is the Word of God. When we live our life in accordance with His word, we can know that special peace and safety that surpasses human understanding. Praise the Lord for that PEACE!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BEN’S MOWER MINISTRY! – Matthew 25:40 Devotional

BEN’S MOWER MINISTRY!

Matthew 25:40 – Devotional

Matthew 25:40

“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Many years ago I had an appointment with another minister at his church. As I was walking in I noticed a jovial elderly man that I knew. Old Ben was busy mowing the church’s lawn as if it was the most vital job in the world. After my meeting with the pastor I saw that Old Ben was resting in the shade.

I asked if he worked for the church and he replied that he just did it as his own ministry. Further inquiry revealed that not only did he mow the lawn at the church, he also mowed and trimmed the lawns of several local widows without any expense to them. It was Ben’s “mower ministry.”

Sometimes we may think that we need to have a degree in theology in order to be a minister. Beep! Wrong answer! All we need to do is give a drink of water (or mow a lawn) as a means of ministering for our Lord.

How are you ministering for the Lord in your own life? Are you allowing Him to take the simple acts of kindness toward others and make them the means of sharing the gospel of Jesus in a meaningful way? I think many of us ministers need to get behind a mower and serve the Lord more effectively.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

FROM VICTORY TO VICTORY! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

FROM VICTORY TO VICTORY!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

In case you need to be reminded, we are the winners! When we received Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we not only passed from death to life, but we also passed from defeat to eternal victory!

As someone once said, “That’s worth a little AMEN, in anybody’s language! As born again believers we need to be known for our radiant victory in Jesus. Those in the world are exposed to cynicism and negativity on every hand. They need to see a radiant difference in the way Christians live their life.

Here is the vital question each of us need to answer; “Does the world see a difference in the way we live from those who are not believers?” Pause and reflect on that for a moment.

If the Lord is our strength (He is), and our eternity is assured (it is), are we living on the victory side of the street? Spend quality time in God’s Word, get a smile on your face and move from victory to victory!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD! – Hebrews 4:12 Devotional

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD!

Hebrews 4:12 – Devotional

Hebrews 4:12

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

If you were to look through some of my photograph albums, many of them show me with one of our children or grandchildren lying on my chest sound asleep. In fact many times both the child and I are sound asleep. Perhaps I have the type of chest that is just made for cuddling. I would much rather have the reputation of being a cuddler than a curmudgeon. (That’s a fancy word for an old cantankerous person). I think the warmth of my chest and the steady beat of my heart is comforting to babies.

In the early years of the 20th Century there was a pandemic of diphtheria in the US that claimed many lives. In 1903 Cleland McAfee was chaplain and choir director at Park College in Parkville, Missouri. As the pandemic swept the area, two of his nieces died from the dread disease and the others in the house were quarantined. In his hour of grief he wrote the hymn NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD and had the college choir sing outside the house.

When you pass through the valley of the shadow of death let these words bring the quiet assurance we need.

. . . . . . . .

NEAR TO THE HEART OF GOD

There is a place of quiet rest, Near to the heart of God.
A place where sin cannot molest, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of comfort sweet, Near to the heart of God.
A place where we our Savior meet, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of full release, Near to the heart of God.
A place where all is joy and peace, Near to the heart of God.

Refrain: O Jesus, blest redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

. . . . . . . .
