JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE!

Psalm 23:4 – Devotional

Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

I walked close to my wife for 62 years before she went to be with the Lord in 2015. Even though she is no longer close to me, she is now experiencing a closer walk with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

Death often casts a huge shadow, but it should hold no fear for the child of God. In 2 Corinthians 5:8 the Apostle Paul reminds us that for the believer, “- – to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Death is our doorway into eternity. How fantastic!

As we consider the words of today’s hymn we should make it our prayer request. It should be our desire to walk closer to the Lord than ever before. It should not be just a one time thing, but it should be our fervent desire to walk closer to Him with each and every passing day.

Just A Closer Walk With Thee

I am weak, but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long; As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

STANDING NOT SITTING!

2 Peter 1:3 – Devotional

2 Peter 1:3

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

I wonder how many times people feel they deserve commendation for attending church services. They may be singing; “Standing On the Promises” but in actuality they are merely SITTING IN THE PREMISES!

While it is a fact that our labors for the Lord will not merit salvation and a home in Glory, they do demonstrate the degree of our obedient commitment to the Lord and His great cause.

We are called to march forth as a mighty army to live and die for the Lord. None of us know what lies before us, but praise God we do know WHO goes before us to prepare the way.

God’s promises are faithful and true and He will open doors that He wants us to go through and also will close doors that He does not want us to enter. Our task is to remain so close to Him by the study of His Word and prayer to discern the difference. Are you STANDING ON THE PROMISES OR MERELY SITTING ON THE PREMISES?!

Amos 6:1

“Woe to you who are at ease in Zion!”

A few blocks from my home is a busy intersection where, almost every week, there is a group of young people having a car wash to raise money. They have signs and usually more enthusiasm than I have experienced for years. Sometimes they yell at the top of their voices, but with your windows rolled up you have no way of hearing what they’re saying. But at least they’re excited!

One day I noticed a young man who is sitting on a lawn chair. He was so nonchalant that at first I thought he was asleep. Then I noticed he had a sign advertising the car wash, but instead of holding it up he just had it leaning against the chair as he sat.

The scene prompted me to think of the modern day Church. There are a few who are excited and committed to the task of sharing the good news about Jesus Christ, but there are many more who seem to be content to just; “Be At Ease In Zion.”

It is vital for us to understand that we are in the midst of a battle, a battle for the souls of men and women, boys and girls. Yet too many are much like that young man sitting on a lawn chair — indifferent and uncommitted. Wake up and get busy sharing with our family and friends and others as the Holy Spirit opens the door,
