2 John 1:6 – Devotional

2 John 1:6

“And this is love that we walk after His commandments. This is the commandment, that, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.”

One of the saddest commentaries on so-called followers of Christ is that they are on again and off again believers. We used to call them, Sunday go to meeting believers. They were one thing in church and another thing in the world!

That is painful even to type it, and I know it breaks the heart of our Lord to have those He paid such an extravagant price for, fail to live the life He freely gives to all who will receive it.

Before we become too smug in our condemnation of the two-faced believers, take a long look into the mirror of God’s Word. Are we preaching one sermon yet living another? Does our walk match our talk?

Like it or not we are preaching sermons moment by moment by the way we live our life. Our actions always speak so loud that our words become nothing but a soft whisper. WALK THE TALK!

JOY TO THE WORLD!

Psalm 98:4 – Devotional

Psalm 98:4​

“Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.”

Throughout Scripture we are called upon to make a joyful noise before the Lord. In Psalm 98, all of creation is called upon to make a joyful noise to the Lord. All around us we see the hand of a loving God who cared enough about us to send His own dear Son into the world to provide us with salvation.

 

This beautiful hymn was written by Isaac Watts. As we read and listen to the words of this moving Christmas hymn, we need to stop and ask ourselves if we are making a joyful noise before the Lord or just making noise.

“JOY TO THE WORLD!”

BE ON ALERT!

1 Peter 5:8 – Devotional

1 Peter 5:8

“Be prepared and alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.”

One of the major elements in defending against aggression is being on alert at all times. I can still recall the long night hours when I was on alert for any sign of threat to our nation. Thankfully we were never attacked, but there were many simulated threats to insure our readiness to react.

When you are wide awake and expectant it is much easier to react quickly and appropriately. When the night hours slip by and your eyes feel like they are filled with sand, it is necessary to react in a professional manner that only comes from long hours of training.

In our spiritual walk we never know when the enemy will mount an attack. We can almost be certain that this attack will occur when we are weary and worn. If we have not spent the time in self examination, prayer, and Bible study, we will be very vulnerable to his attack.

There is one thing we can be sure about—we will meet our Lord face to face. It may be at the moment our eyes close in death or it may be when the trumpet sounds and we are called up to meet the Lord in the air. Either way, we must be on the alert with our lamps burning bright. Are you on alert
