OPEN YOUR EARS!

Deuteronomy 32:1 – Devotional

Deuteronomy 32:1

“Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak;
and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.”

In my memory of the days of my youth, I seem to recall my mom or dad (or both) telling me to open my ears. The fact that I could hear them was evidence that I had the sense of hearing, even if I lacked the sense of responding!

There is a difference of simply hearing sounds, as opposed to having the knowledge of what the sounds mean. The wail of a siren can alert a citizen to danger and the same sound can call a first responder to report for duty.

We need to be a spiritual first responder when we hear the tragic news of a lost and dying world that is destined to destruction without the hope that only Christ can give.

We need to recognize that God calls us to accept His call for us to listen to His call for us to take up the task of spreading the Good News that there is eternal life available to those who will accept God’s precious gift! Freely God has given His precious gift and we must share that gift with those around us. Will you open your ears and spread the word?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN! – 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN!

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 – Devotional

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18

“After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.”

Though an invalid for much of her life, Eliza Edmunds Hewitt was always active and enjoyed a long personal friendship with Fanny Crosby. These two women met often for fellowship and discussion of their new hymns. Eliza was a school teacher in Philadelphia and a Christian lay worker who was committed to write songs to teach children the basic truths of the gospel. This song was written for her own Sunday school class in Philadelphia.

Miss Hewitt often attended the Methodist camp meetings at Ocean Grove, New Jersey. It was here that she collaborated with Emily Wilson, the wife of a Methodist district superintendent in Philadelphia, in the writing of this triumphant gospel hymn–a favorite of young and old alike. “When We All Get to Heaven” was first published in 1898.

WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN

1. Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace.
In the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

2. While we walk the pilgrim pathway, Clouds will overspread the sky;
But when traveling days are over, Not a shadow, not a sigh.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

3. Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

4. Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open; We shall tread the streets of gold.

Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

REMOVE THE RUST! – John 9:4-5 Devotional

REMOVE THE RUST!

John 9:4-5 – Devotional

John 9:4-5

“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

I once received a photo of a can of rust remover that was coated with rust. That photo belied what it should have accomplished. It was a vivid reminder that it is what that is on the inside that truly matters!

As I am reminded of that picture I recall the saying; “It is better to burn out than to rust out.” As I think about it, I cannot recall knowing anyone who worked to death in serving the Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sadly I must confess that I have known many who became rusty in the work for the Lord. The fire they once had in service began to flicker and the oil in their lamp ran dry. Instead of returning to the Lord for a fresh supply, they pressed on in their own strength. Sadly, it wasn’t long before spiritual rust began to eat away their luster.

How do we insure that we will not fall into the same rusty rut? I think the answer is in staying close to the Lord in all that we are doing. Rather than doing things to please people, we need to always be focused on pleasing the Lord. That means we need to start each day with prayer and the Word. It is the oil that will lubricate and preserve us for each day, but we need that fresh supply on a daily basis.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
