HO, EVERYONE WHO IS THIRSTY! – Isaiah 51:1-2 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

HO, EVERYONE WHO IS THIRSTY!

Isaiah 51:1-2  –  Devotional

Isaiah 51:1-2

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come buy and eat. Yes, come buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.”

Water, water, everywhere…and not a drop to drink! Those words have probably been uttered many times by victims stranded in the middle of the ocean. The salt-laden sea seems to mock them – they are surrounded by water, but it would be poison to their system to drink it.

Lucy Jane Rider Meyer wrote the words of today’s hymn. She was born on a Vermont farm in 1849. Lucy was a teacher and not only founded many high schools, but went on to teach chemistry at McKendree College, a school for freed blacks in North Carolina. She was one of the first female professors.

What a refreshing thought that a brilliant professor was able to use the Word of God to bring music to the thirsty human soul. Oh, that we had more brave educators who would be willing to put their reputations on the line for the things of God. I thirst for that!

HO, EVERYONE WHO IS THIRSTY

1. Ho! Everyone that is thirsty in spirit,
Ho! Everyone that is weary and sad;
Come to the fountain, there’s fullness in Jesus,
All that you’re longing for; come and be glad!

Refrain: I will pour water on him that is thirsty,
I will pour floods upon the dry ground;
Open your hearts for the gifts I am bringing;
While you are seeking Me, I will be found.

2. Child of the world, are you tired of your bondage?
Weary of earth’s joys, so false, so untrue?
Thirsting for God and His fullness of blessing?
List’ to the promise, a message for you!

Refrain: I will pour water on him that is thirsty,
I will pour floods upon the dry ground;
Open your hearts for the gifts I am bringing;
While you are seeking Me, I will be found.

3. Child of the kingdom, be filled with the Spirit!
Nothing but “fullness” thy longing can meet;
‘Tis the enduement for life and for service;
Thine is the promise, so certain, so sweet.

Refrain: I will pour water on him that is thirsty,
I will pour floods upon the dry ground;
Open your hearts for the gifts I am bringing;
While you are seeking Me, I will be found.

CHEW THE CUD! – Psalm 1:1-2 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

CHEW THE CUD!

Psalm 1:1-2 – Devotional

Psalm 1:1-2

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.”

In my book, “Life Is A Blast” I recall a cow our family owned when I was a boy. Her name was Blossom and she was a gentle creature. I was too young to milk her, but I enjoyed spending time with her.

One of the things that I found fascinating about Blossom was the way she chewed the cud. She would chew and chew her hay then swallow it. After a short time there would be a rumble and she would burp up some of the partially digested hay and chew it again. It is the way with cows to process their food in order to internalize it.

It is interesting that the word (meditate) in the original Hebrew tongue means to rumble or growl, but also to muse or think deeply. In my mind as we read these two verses that begin the Book of Psalms, we are called to bring the words up over and over again until they become part of our being.

Here is the vital question—are we spending the time chewing on God’s Word in order for it to dwell in us completely? Do we appropriate the deep meaning of the word and allow it to make our life complete? Let us chew the cud of God’s word!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

NO FEAR OF SHADOWS! – Psalm 23:4 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

NO FEAR OF SHADOWS!

Psalm 23:4 –  Devotional

Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will have no fear of evil: for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff comfort me.”

I have experienced the walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Many years ago I was being examined by a cardiologist when he suddenly asked if there was anyone in the waiting area that could drive me to the hospital. My wife drove me and within a few hours I had endured heart by-pass surgery. Yeah! Only try it if you require it!

Enduring my own surgery and recovery period was nothing compared to holding watch as my oldest daughter and years later, my beloved wife slip free of the bonds of this sin-sick world into the loving arms of the Lord who loved them with a love far greater than my capacity to love.

If you have walked through, or about to walk through the valley of death, remember that for we believers it is just the shadow of death. When we accepted Jesus as our Savior we passed from death to life. We need have no fear of death for we have received eternal life through Him! Praise the Lord!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

GRUMPY CATS! – Hebrews 13:15 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GRUMPY CATS!

Hebrews 13:15 –  Devotional

Hebrews 13:15

“As a result of our walk with Jesus let us always be known as people who always give Him praise as natural as fruit from the trees!”

If you are able to visit a zoo, you may discover in the feline section of the zoo an exhibit with “Grumpy Cats.” These felines may live up to their name, but the name is given because their facial features make them appear – – GRUMPY!

Unfortunately I have known a few believers who may fit this category. I hope that you are not one who may be described as a “Grumpy Cat Believer!” There should be an aura about us that comes from knowing that our name is written down in glory and we are members of God’s family. Now that should make us smile!

As you face this day and all of the others that God gives us to live, make every effort to look like a happy puppy rather than a grumpy cat. I mean no affront to the cat lovers who read this!

Let the joy of Jesus fill you with an eagerness to share with others that they can turn their sin and strife into joy and gladness. Remember that we are members of God’s family and heaven will be our eternal home.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
