HANG ON WITH JOY!

Revelation 2:25 – Devotional

Revelation 2:25

“Hold fast to what you have until I come.”

I fondly recall my days of youth when we all looked forward to snow and slick streets. Motorists dreaded these streets then as they still do in our day and age. One of the reasons the young people loved slick streets was hooky-bobbing. The adults frowned upon the practice, but tolerated the practice since they could recall when they did the same thing when they were young.

There were shrieks of laughter as we slid along the snow-packed streets for as long as possible. The ride generally took us only a block or so. Most motorists seemed to enjoy it as much as we did, but there were a few sour souls who vented their spleen on our fun-filled delight!

As I think on it I realize there are many people in today’s world who seem to take offense when the people of God enjoy the joy of their salvation. They seem to feel that the walk with the Lord should be filled with doom and gloom.

I take delight in breaking the bubble of such an attitude. Across the centuries the people of God have been the most joyous people on earth. Even those who have been persecuted have suffered with joy. Regardless of the trials you are going through right now – – HANG ON WITH JOY!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR FIRST LOVE! – Revelation 2:4 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

OUR FIRST LOVE!

Revelation 2:4 – Devotional

Revelation 2:4

“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”

The hectic turmoil of our present-day life may be likened to the flying fury of a major hurricane. There never seems to be enough hours in the day or enough days in the week to complete the many tasks we feel pressured to accomplish.

We may sometimes observe a slight increase in the interest of spiritual things. The problem is that most lose that interest all too quickly. It seems that people view spirituality as a passing fancy instead of a life-changing experience.

In the Scripture for today we discover a letter to the church at Ephesus that the Lord has revealed to the Apostle John. This was a dynamic church that was complimented for their labor, patience, abhorrence for the doers of evil deeds and false teachers. But there was something lacking — they had lost their first love.

It is possible for us to participate in activities that are spiritual in nature and have wonderful intentions, but we lack the love that first existed when we were new Christians. Now is the time for us to perform an evaluation of our walk with the Lord to determine if He would find that we still possess that first love we had for Him. I pray that we will be found worthy of His name.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER! – Revelation 21:27 Devotional

WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER!

Revelation 21:27 – Devotional

Revelation 21:27

“But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”

In 1893, James Black was a Methodist Sunday school teacher in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. As he was calling roll one day for a youth meeting, young Bessie, daughter of a drunkard, did not show up, and he was disappointed at her failure to appear. He commented to a friend, “Well, I trust when the roll is called up yonder, she’ll be there.” He tried to find an appropriate song for the situation but could not find one in his song book.

Here is how Mr. Black describes how he came to write the hymn: “This lack of a fitting song caused me both sorrow and disappointment. An inner voice seemed to say, ‘Why don’t you write one?’ I put away the thought. As I opened the gate on my way home, the same thought came again so strongly that tears filled my eyes. I entered the house and sat down at the piano. The words came to me effortlessly…The tune came the same way—I dared not change a single note or word.”

When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder

(1) When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Refrain: When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll, is called up yonder,
When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.

(2) On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise,
And the glory of His resurrection share;

When His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Refrain: When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll, is called up yonder,
When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.

(3) Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun,
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;
Then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Refrain: When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll, is called up yonder,
When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.
