SINNERS MADE CLEAN! Psalm 51:10 – Devotional

SINNERS MADE CLEAN!

Psalm 51:10 – Devotional

Psalm 51:10

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

If there is anyone who is without sin it is certainly not me. As a matter of fact, in Romans 3 we are told that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. If you try to convince yourself or others that you are without sin, you have just contradicted the Word of God.

The truth of the matter is that we live in a sinful and fallen world. Beginning with Adam and Eve, every single person has been imprinted with sin. It is part of our human DNA. The only remedy for this fatal condition was — Jesus!

There is no way that anyone can be good enough or do enough good deeds to deserve the salvation we all so desperately need. Isaiah 64:6 reminds us that all of our righteousness is as filthy rags. That is how God views our efforts to justify ourselves.

But, thank God, there is hope for us. It is not in what we do for ourselves, but what God has done for us by sending Jesus to redeem us from our sin. There is only one way to be cleansed from our sin, and that WAY is JESUS!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

TOO LAID BACK! Psalm 123:4 – Devotional

TOO LAID BACK!

Psalm 123:4 – Devotional

Psalm 123:4

“Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those who are at ease,
and with the contempt of the proud.”

I have always found it easy for me to identify shapes of certain objects from far distances. I can identify particular model of planes by their silhouettes. I often can identify birds by their shapes, calls, and their movements.

I once was driving along a country road and saw a shape in the distance that I could not readily identify. It was smaller than a person walking and seemed to be moving like a bicycle, but the shape was quite low to the ground. As I drew closer I saw that it was a rider on a recumbent bike.

For those of you who have never seen a recumbent bicycle, it has many of the characteristics of a regular bicycle, but the cyclist reclines rather than sits in a more upright fashion.

There may be satisfaction in cycling in a reclining position, but if I were given the choice, I would choose the traditional mode of travel. In like manner I reject the modern laid back idea of doing one’s own thing, and will choose to go God’s way!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

AVAILABLE TO GOD! Isaiah 40:31 – Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

AVAILABLE TO GOD!

Isaiah 40:31 – Devotional

Isaiah 40:31

“Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall soar on wings as eagles, shall run and not grow weary,
shall walk and not faint.”

The longer I live the more I realize I know so very little. But then it’s really not essential that I know everything. I feel like the old pastor who slowly walked to the pulpit. The congregation eagerly awaited the message that this precious saint of God would deliver. You may recall the words that he simply said: “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”

I’m so appreciative of having a Kindle reader so I can read book after book without carrying an entire armload. I recall reading a book by Jerry Bridges titled, “Trusting God: Even When Life Hurts.” Even the title moves me.

His words gave me a new appreciation of the sovereignty of God. God is not incumbent to make me comfortable or painless. In fact, it is not about me at all. If it is pain, so be it! If it is suffering, so be it! If it is complete healing, so be it!

During a hospital stay, God was able to use me to bring a little bit of healing to the nurses and staff who treated me. That was my ministry for this particular situation and I thank God for it. I rejoice being home, but I want to be available for God to be sovereign in my life wherever that may be.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

RESTORE US LORD! Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 – Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

RESTORE US LORD!

Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 – Devotional

Psalm 80:3, 7, 19

“Restore us, O God; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved.”

I recall a college professor that began each term with a word of instruction to his class. He suggested that we pay special attention to what he was about to say any time he stomped his foot because it would undoubtedly be on the test. That was good advice (except for the fact that he was prone to repeatedly stomping his foot, and many questions on his tests were not foot stompers).

In reading God’s Word, we need to pay special attention when the writer uses repetition. That is the case in Psalm 80. Here the Psalmist repeats the same psalm three times. To me, that is a foot stomper, and I need to pay special attention!

Over the years I have been involved in restoring old cars and old houses. The final result is well worth the time and toil that I invested in the project. It reminds me of the old adage; “No pain, no gain!”

If you are like me, there are many times when we come to the place where our physical energy has an effect on our spiritual well being. It is at these times we need to cry out for God to restore us. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
