THERE’S JESUS NOW​​​​!

Psalm 49:16-17 – Devotional

Psalm 49:16-17

“Do not be afraid by a rich man, when his riches are increased; for when he dies he shall take nothing with him: his glory shall not accompany him.”

Across the years my wife Joyce and I had the honor of visiting many shrines and tombs of men and women of wealth and prominence. Some of these people were proclaimed atheists or agnostics. It literally broke our hearts to imagine the suffering that greeted them when they breathed their last breath!

Then I recall visiting a small cemetery in Camas, Washington, and standing beside the weathered grave-marker of my beloved grandpa, Earnest Thompson. He is the beloved saint whose last words on this earth were; “Well there’s Jesus now!”

It may have been the Lord who greeted Grandpa Thompson or an angel sent by Jesus to welcome him home to glory, but regardless there was joy and rejoicing in his entrance to eternity.

Across the years of our life we may experience joys as well as sorrows. In either case we need to constantly remind ourselves that the things of this world are only temporary. Our eternal home is waiting for our arrival. That is why we believers can rejoice when a born-again family member marches into glory to be with Jesus and all of the believers who have gone on before us!

REJOICE AND PRAISE!

Psalm 97:12 – Devotional

Psalm 97:12

“Let everyone who is godly rejoice in the Lord and praise His holy name!”

I must confess that I have a difficult time being around negative people. You know the type – – those who see only doom and gloom while ignoring the mighty works of God that He so freely displays for us.

This is not to say that we live in ideal conditions. Let’s face it, we live in a sin-sick and fallen world. Across the ages the people of God have been persecuted and tortured for their faith. It is in these most perilous times that His glory is the most evident and precious.

I certainly do not desire to suffer for the Lord, but I have “signed up” to be a member of His blood washed band. If I am called upon to pay the ultimate sacrifice with my life, I know He will be there beside me!

Whatever you are facing this day, take heart dear one. The Lord has not left you alone! The glorious Holy Spirit is right there beside us and will give us the strength to endure to the end with joy and praise!

LET GOD BE EXALTED!

Psalm 57:5 – Devotional

Psalm 57:5

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth.”

Day in and day out many people strive to push themselves to the front of whatever line they are in. It may be in the family, at work, in politics, even in the church. It is tragic that so many believers spend time exalting themselves rather than God.

How do we go about exalting God? That is a question we should be asking ourselves from early morning to the last thing at night. Our chief aim in life should be to bring honor and glory to His name.

We start this process by starting each day with the Lord. The first words we read should be for the Bible and the final words before we drift into slumber should be from that same life-giving source.

We need to always remind ourselves that the things of this earth are fading away and the things of eternity must be our primary aim. This world is like a tent in the wild that may offer temporary shelter, but it is not our home. As we exalt the name of our Lord and Savior, we allow Him to lift us above the troubles and trials of this world to catch a glimpse of the glory that awaits us!
