BE STILL BEFORE THE LORD! – Psalm 37:7 Devotional

BE STILL BEFORE THE LORD!

Psalm 37:7 – Devotional

Psalm 37:7

“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; don’t fret when other people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

From time to time we will encounter friends, family or acquaintances who like to boast that they do not believe in God. They foolishly feel that the decision they have made concerning the existence of God determines whether or not He is real.

Several years ago my wife Joyce and I had stopped at a super market and were just returning to our car. I heard someone scream my name and a young woman I had known for several years ran up and greeted me with sheer delight. It seems that she had heard that I had died and now here I was alive and well.

You see, just because she thought I was dead did not make me dead. She was sincere in believing what she had heard, and in fact she had shared the news of my death with others, but that had no bearing on my being alive.

When we encounter people who pride themselves in their atheistic disbelief it is well to remember that it is the Holy Spirit who will be able to reveal the truth to them. In the meantime we need to live the authentic life in Christ that will reveal the truth that God is not dead, He lives in and through us!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S QUIETING PRESENCE! – Psalm 107:30 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S QUIETING PRESENCE!

Psalm 107:30 – Devotional

Psalm 107:30

“They are glad because they are quiet and He guides them safely.”

There was a time (probably many times) when things seemed to pile up that caused me to become very impatient. I was traveling out of state and on the way I again had the frustrating experience of following a driver that consistently was driving below the posted speed limit. I tried to control my anxiety, but just could not find the peace I needed.

When I arrived at my room for the night I prayed and asked the Lord to please help me deal with this problem area. When I took my Bible I prayerfully asked Him to grant me patience. (When you pray that prayer, God is faithful to answer!) The next morning I wanted to arrive at my meeting early so when I went to the restaurant, I sat at the counter. Everyone knows that is the best place to sit in order to be served quickly. Right? Nope!

I sat there and sat there watching customer after customer enter, be seated at a booth, order, eat, pay and leave. All this while I still sat waiting for my order to arrive. (God was answering my prayer!) The waitress was embarrassed and finally even stopped coming my way. Almost an hour later she brought my order and apologized. Her order ticket had fallen off the order board. I told her that it was not her fault, God was answering my prayer! She looked at me as if I were crazy. When you pray for patience, get ready for God’s sense of humor!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PRAISE HIM! PRAISE HIM! – Psalm 33:1-3 Devotional

PRAISE HIM! PRAISE HIM!

Psalm 33:1-3 – Devotional

Psalm 33:1-3

“Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

What a wonderful woman! She stood under five feet and weighed less than 100 pounds. Because of being maltreated for an eye infection when she was only a few months old, she spent the remainder of her 95 years totally blind.

Her name was Fanny J. Crosby. This tiny dynamo wrote over 8,000 poems and hymns during her lifetime. She composed her poems and hymns entirely in her mind and then dictated them to a stenographer. She was said to be able to work on as many as twelve hymns at once before dictating them all out.

Fanny felt that it was a special gift from God that she should be blind all of her life, and she thanked Him for that gift. She felt that when she arrived in heaven, the first face she desired to gladden her sight would be her precious Savior. It was in 1896 that she wrote the hymn selected for this week.

. . . . . . . .

PRAISE HIM! PRAISE HIM!

1. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! Sing O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim! Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory; strength and honor give to His holy name! Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children. In His arms He carries them all day long:

Refrain: Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness; Praise Him! Praise Him, ever in joyful song!

1. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! For our sins He suffered and bled and died; He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation; Hail Him! Hail Him! Jesus the Crucified. Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows, love unbounded, wonderful deep and strong:

Refrain: Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness; praise Him! Praise Him, ever in joyful song!

1. Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus our blessed Redeemer! Heavenly portals loud with hosannas ring! Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever; Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet and Priest and King! Christ is coming! Over the world victorious, power and glory unto the Lord belong.

Refrain: Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness; praise Him! Praise Him, ever in joyful song!

KEEP ME SAFE! – Psalm 119:117 Devotional

KEEP ME SAFE!

Psalm 119:117 – Devotional

Psalm 119:117

“Hold me up and I will be safe and I will observe Your laws forever.”

When I hear the word “safe” I often imagine a baseball game where the runner slides into home plate while the umpire stands ready to render the verdict as to whether the runner was tagged “out” or was called “safe.”

There are other thoughts that crowd into my mind about being safe. If you have ever been in a small boat on a rough body of water and finally enter a sheltered cove, you would know that you were now safe from the waves.

There are many more circumstances of life when we escape a dangerous episode to a safe place. I guess we could say that this life that we live is a series of dangerous events that threaten us. We need a safe haven, don’t we?

The Psalmist assures us that our safe haven is the Word of God. When we live our life in accordance with His Word, we can know that special peace and safety that surpasses human understanding. Praise the Lord for that PEACE!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S FIRST CLASS TICKET! – Psalm 118:1 Devotional

GOD’S FIRST CLASS TICKET!

Psalm 118:1 – Devotional

Psalm 118:1

“Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good and His mercy endures forever.”

The senseless violence that is rampant around the world can cause us to feel that the forces of hell are winning the battle for men’s souls. In a sense that is true if we look only at the results of sin and not the redemption that God offers.

Years ago I read about a man who was travelling across the Atlantic Ocean on a great liner. He had packed as much food as he could stuff into his suitcase, but it soon ran out and he was week with hunger and the aroma from the dining area almost was more than he could stand.

At last he approached a ship’s steward and asked if he might be able to work at some job in order to be able to earn enough to eat. When the steward examined his ticket he was informed that it entitled him to meals as well as transportation.

How often do we as God’s children, who are on our journey to heaven, live like spiritual paupers? Instead of relishing in the rich spiritual resources God gives to those who have been born again, we live like spiritual beggars. Remember – – Jesus purchased us a first class ticket with His own blood!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
