Proverbs 18:15

“The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise is always open to seek more knowledge.“

My mom always said I was a handful when I was a boy. That is so hard to believe since I am such a meek and mild adult. Choke! Choke! Let me be quick to say that I was not evil, just full of life and always on the go. In frustration mom would often make me sit on a stool in the living room without making a sound.

I recall her saying that within a few minutes on that stool I was ready to explode. I was like the little boy who, enduring the same punishment, finally told his mother that may be sitting down on the outside, but he was standing up on the inside!

Years ago I memorized a passage of scripture that has meant much to me across the days of my life. It is Jeremiah 17:9: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” The answer is that it is God who knows our heart inside and outside.

When we have the spiritual ears to “hear” what God says in His Word and apply it to our life, only then are we ready to do His will, His way, and in His time. That is like opening the ears of our spiritual hearts and responding when He calls.

Proverbs 29:18 – Devotional

Proverbs 29:18

“Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; but happy is the one who obeys the law!”

Assembly line workers frequently become lethargic and even ineffective as they are required to perform the same menial task over and over again. To remedy this situation, some companies have assembly line workers progress through the entire production process. They see not only the completed product, but the vital part each worker plays in getting the product to its successful completion.

Our “eyes” can frequently become clouded and distorted. We see with such limited vision that we fail to see the final completion. God sees the end from the beginning and that is why it is imperative for us to search our Bible to see God’s plans.

There is a portion of the Bible that is frequently neglected — the concordance. It should become a regular practice to go to a concordance (even the one at the rear of our Bible) and find references to key words.

We will discover a fresh vision from God when we become actively involved in searching to find meaning to this life that we are living. Stop focusing on the minute details of your life to the neglect of God’s ultimate plan. Ask the Lord to show you His FRESH VISION for you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Devotional

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

There is an old joke that I heard years ago. It seems that a chicken and a pig were discussing what they could do to show their appreciation to farmer Brown. The chicken suggested that they should honor him by providing a breakfast of ham and eggs. The pig snorted that for the chicken it would just be giving an offering — for him it would be a total commitment.

What a silly story . . . yet it becomes all too appropriate when we relate it to our spiritual walk with the Lord. There are many Christians who are satisfied with only giving a token offering. They do not want to be associated with those they consider to be wild eyed religious fanatics.

As I study the lives of the Old Testament and New Testament saints, I find that they were far sighted and solid in faith. They looked beyond the frothy things of this world and saw the reality of eternity with the Lord.

In today’s Scripture, we have a road map for our life. When we place our complete trust in the Lord we have the confident assurance that He will direct our paths. I choose to have the Lord of the universe direct my life. I trust in Him!
