OUR ULTIMATE FRIEND! – Proverbs 18:24b Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

OUR ULTIMATE FRIEND!

Proverbs 18:24b – Devotional

Proverbs 18:24b

“There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Yesterday I had the delightful pleasure of sharing lunch with dear friends and family. My son and his wife were there (I see them frequently), but the most rare pleasure was greeting a former military officer, Bruce Horacek and his wife, Karen. I had served with Bruce some 50 years ago. Wow! How can that be true for someone as young as the two of us? Cough! Cough!

As we shared this joyous reunion and felt God’s love around the table, I caught just a glimpse of what it will be like when we are all gathered together around God’s heavenly table.

I know that the hour grows closer and closer each passing day when the trumpet will sound and we will rise to meet the Lord in the air. That will be a glorious day for every born again believer, but a tragedy of tragedies for those who are left behind.

Let us be fervent in living and sharing the good news of Jesus’ saving grace with as many as possible for as long as possible! Time is short, let us be faithful!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

TRUST IN THE LORD! – Proverbs 3:5 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

TRUST IN THE LORD!

Proverbs 3:5 – Devotional

Proverbs 3:5

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart!”

The longer I live the more I realize I know very little. I feel like the old pastor who slowly walked to the pulpit. As the congregation eagerly awaited the message from this precious saint of God. He simply said: “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”

In the past I have discovered that the interruptions in my regular schedule gave me the opportunity to read and meditate more than usual. I’m so appreciative of having a Kindle device so I can read book after book without carrying an entire armload. One book I read was; “Trusting God: Even When Life Hurts.”

More and more I have discovered a new appreciation of the sovereignty of God. It really is not what makes me comfortable or painless. If it is pain, so be it! If it is suffering, so be it! If it is complete healing, so be it! It is so easy to focus all of our attention upon our own will rather than on what God wants for us and through us.

During our hospital stays, God is able to use us to bring a little bit of healing to the nurses and staff who treats us. We all have a ministry for each situation in life and we need to be available for God to use us!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

TRUST IN THE LORD! – Proverbs 3:5-6 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

TRUST IN THE LORD!

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Devotional

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all of your heart rather than relying on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will lead you.”

All of us have some core of reliance. It may be our physical attributes, our mental acumen, our family heritage, or some other basis of reliance. Then there are those of us who seemingly have little or no self esteem. We delight in the fact that we are nothing and therefore have no responsibility to do anything. BEEP!

There are some people who seem to take pride in belittling themselves and taking glory in that they are nothing. That foolish attitude reveals that they have become guilty of the pride in their humility. How utterly foolish!

I once heard a pastor share his dismay by a comment one of his flock shared after he had preached a message on humility. This person was simply glowing as she shared how much the message had meant to her. She felt she had very few spiritual gifts to offer the Lord, but she was proud of her gift of humility! YUCK!

We all need to lean more on the Lord and seek His leadership in our life. Jesus made it very clear that to offer a cup of water in His name was far more vital to a parched throat than the most eloquent sermon. Let’s live our faith!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and your actions!

GODLY WISDOM! – Proverbs 23:9 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GODLY WISDOM!

Proverbs 23:9 – Devotional

Proverbs 23:9

“- – a fool will totally reject the wisdom of wise words.”

I recall talking with a good friend and he mentioned he had heard a comment to keep in mind: “Never argue with a fool. You will lower yourself to his level and discover that he has more experience than you at that lower level.”

I often reflect on the homespun wit and wisdom of Ben Riordan, the Juvenile Court Judge I worked for many years ago. One of his favorite expressions was to describe a fool as one who might just appear to be a fool… until he opened his mouth…at which time he removed all doubt!

There is a definition given in Psalm 53:1; “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.” As we consider that definition we discover that many people fall into that category. It is frustrating and counterproductive to argue with those who deny God.

Argumentation will never lead to victory. We must live out our faith in such a way that Jesus will be seen in and through us without a word being spoken. The best witnesses for Jesus are those who allow Him to use us as His instruments of grace. May the beauty of Jesus be seen in us!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
