TRUST IN THE LORD!

Jeremiah 17:7-8 – Devotional

Jeremiah 17:7-8

“Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD. He will be like a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not worry in the year of drought, and shall not cease from yielding fruit.”

When I was a boy our family occasionally made a trip across country to visit relatives. Cars in that day did not have air conditioned luxury and the radiators at times became over-heated. We sometimes were forced to pull over and wait in the hot sun until the heat gauge indicated it was safe to continue.

I think I am safe in saying that we all experience times when the intense heat wave of adversity sweeps in with a vengeance. It may strike with such force that it almost takes our breath away. You may even be experiencing such a time of trial right at this very moment.

As a fellow believer who walks in the heat of this crazy world, I want to share that we can find life giving shade in the shadow of the Almighty! As we trust in the Lord with all of our hearts, He will cause the heat of adversity to produce a bountiful crop of righteousness. TRUST IN THE LORD!

Blessings dear hearts walk with God today and become a blessing!

GOD HAS PLANS! – Jeremiah 29:11 Devotional

GOD HAS PLANS!

Jeremiah 29:11 – Devotional

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

During church service on Sunday, one of our members was reflecting about how we have had experiences where God has stepped in and revealed Himself in a way that resolved our problems. Then only a short time later we will try to handle our problems in our own strength instead of allowing Him to meet our need.

Many people seem to have an erroneous view of the Lord. They see Him as a God that is vindictive and eager to find fault in our lives in order to punish us. They fail to see the love of God and the provision of God. Like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, they hide from God rather than running to Him for salvation and comfort.

The Lord knows what lies ahead for us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. In the most disastrous times of our life He is there beside us giving us a future and a hope, regardless of how hopeless the situation may seem.

1. What is the greatest ordeal in your future?
2. Are you trying to deal with it in your own strength?

God promises us that He is the One who gives us strength for each and every day. He loves us and has a wonderful plan for our life. Are you actively seeking to discover that plan and purpose that He has designed just for you?

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

PRAISE THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY! – Jeremiah 29:11-13 Devotional

PRAISE THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY!

Jeremiah 29:11-13 – Devotional

Jeremiah 29:11-13

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

I would dare to say that almost all of us have experienced some sort of trial in our life. It could be the loss of health, a financial meltdown, death of a mate or child or any number of catastrophic events. It is not whether or not we will encounter these trials, but rather what we will do when they arise.

The phrase, Praise to the Lord occurs in at least 155 verses in the Bible. That indicates to me that we need to spend far more time praising the Lord than we do. It would be well to replace our complaints with words of praise to the Lord.

Over 300 years ago, Joachim Neander was a hymn writer for the German Reform church. He was going through a time of trial and testing in his life. He would take long walks and pour his heart out to the Lord. It was on one of these walks that he came to the realization that it was not his strength that would give him victory and peace, but rather the powerful God he served. It was in that state of mind that he composed this week’s featured hymn.

PRAISE TO THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, Now to His temple draw near;
Join me in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord, who over all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires ever have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who with marvelous wisdom hath made thee!
Decked thee with health, and with loving hand guided and stayed Thee.
How oft in grief hath not He bought thee relief,
Spreading His wings for to shade thee!

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him!
Let the Amen sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

PLANTED BY GOD’S WATER! – Jeremiah 17:8 Devotional

PLANTED BY GOD’S WATER!

Jeremiah 17:8 – Devotional

Jeremiah 17:8

“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when the heat comes.”

Someone has observed that happiness is the result of something good or pleasing happening, but joy is the choice a person makes in spite of what happens. Many people appear as if they had been “baptized in vinegar.” For Christians, this way to act is a terrible witness to non-believers.

I have said it before and I will say it again; “The way we live is far more effective than what we say.” I do not want to imply that we are not to share our faith with others, but it also needs to be reflected in how we live.

All too often we have seen prominent religious figures that were vocal supporters of holy living, sadly to be exposed participating in the various sinful practices they have preached against.

I would like for each of us to prayerfully answer the following questions: If Jesus was standing beside us, would He be pleased with the things we say? The music we listen to? The programs we watch on television? The things we read? The activities we engage in? The people we associate with? This could go on and on couldn’t it? I pray that we will plant our roots deep in His Word!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

SPIRITUAL WATER! – Jeremiah 17:8 Devotional

SPIRITUAL WATER!

Jeremiah 17:8 – Devotional

Jeremiah 17:8

“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when the heat comes.”

Many of you know that I frequently visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem. I do not visit in person, but rather use the internet to view the wall. The images are updated every few minutes, so it is very current.

The wall is constructed of multi-ton stones that have very little space between each other. Jerusalem is a very dry region and there is very little precipitation. In spite of the lack of rain, the plants continue to grow out of the wall.

They are able to survive because they have roots that travel deep into the crevasses that exist in the wall. I am told that there are at least six distinct plants that grow out of the wall.

I am reminded that sometimes we may feel that we have been planted where little spiritual nourishment is available. But wait! There is! It is to be found in the crevasses of the Word of God. He has given us the spiritual water that will sustain us in the dry and arid world in which we live. Praise God for the water of life that is able to cause us to grow!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
