I WANT PATIENCE – RIGHT NOW! – James 5:8 Devotional

I WANT PATIENCE – RIGHT NOW!

James 5:8 – Devotional

James 5:8

“You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

We are living in such an “instant” age that the mere mention of patience flies in the face of our way of life. We have instant cash machines, instant check-out counters, instant income tax refunds, instant coffee … tea … pudding … mashed potatoes … (I was going to continue, but the mere mention of instant mashed potatoes made me sick to my stomach).

In the face of all the short-cuts to achieve our end result, we find that we have even less time for the important things in life than ever before. Not only that, the labor-saving devices we use find us so tired and exhausted at the end of the day that we walk and talk like robots. Our “time-saving” gadgets and gizmos have us running at a break-neck pace to get from appointment to appointment. What has happened?

The answer lies in the Word of God. In all of our efforts we have totally failed to develop the proper discipline of patience. We do not want to wait or slow down for anything. In the midst of our hectic, fast-paced schedules we are so busy making things happen that we leave no room for that all important “quiet time” of waiting to see what God is going to bring into being. Slow down and wait for God!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions and your patience!!

COME NEAR TO GOD! – James 4:8 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

COME NEAR TO GOD!

James 4:8 – Devotional

James 4:8

“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

If You Knew Suzie was a popular song in the 1920’s and 30’s. One line from that song, is spiritually revealing: She goes to church each Sunday, to sing and praise the Lord; but then come Monday, she’s as busy as a Ford.

Sadly the pattern of many so-called Christians is to act spiritual or righteous when around “church” people, but behave like the world the rest of the time. We deceive ourselves into thinking that we can compartmentalize our lives. It’s as if we call a “time out” to do our carnal thing, and then at our convenience return to being “nice.” God hates such double-minded behavior.

Sin is sin and God hates sin. We are to confess our sin before Him and allow Him to bring forgiveness and cleansing. Then we are to turn from our former ways and follow Him. This is the only way to get rid of the double-mindedness that plagues the church of Jesus Christ.

When we resist the devil, James says he will flee from us. We resist the devil by submitting to and focusing on God! Let God deal with the devil!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

CLEAN HANDS AND PURE HEART! – James 4:8 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

CLEAN HANDS AND PURE HEART!

James 4:8 – Devotional

James 4:8

“Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

If You Knew Suzie, was a popular song back in the 1900’s. I had never really paid attention to a particular line from that song, but it is spiritually revealing: “She goes to church each Sunday, to sing and praise the Lord; but then come Monday she’s as busy as a Ford.” I have no idea what “busy as a Ford” implies but it’s not spiritual.

Sadly the pattern of many people is to act “spiritual” when around “church” people, then live like the world the rest of the time. God is never pleased with our double-mindedness.

The common practice of calling sin by some other name is unacceptable. Sin is sin and God hates sin. We are to confess our sin and allow Him to bring forgiveness and cleansing. Then we are to turn from our former ways and follow Him. This is the only way to get rid of the double-mindedness that plagues the church of Jesus Christ.

James 4:7 gives the necessary steps in submitting to God and resisting the devil! When we resist the devil, James says he will flee from us. We resist the devil by submitting to and focusing on God! Let God deal with him!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

OUR SOURCE OF JOY! – James 1:2-3 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

OUR SOURCE OF JOY!

James 1:2-3 – Devotional

James 1:2-3

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

I have heard people ask another person why they are so happy. Actually true happiness is only the result of something good or pleasing happening. Joy on the other hand is the choice a person makes in spite of what happens.

Unfortunately I have counseled many people across the years who behaved as if they had been “baptized in vinegar.” Some of these people have been Christians. I know that their demeanor has been a terrible witness to non-believers.

I have said it before and I will say it again; “The way we live is far more vital than what we say.” I do not want to imply that we are not to share our faith with others, but it needs to be reflected in how we live.

I would like each of us to prayerfully answer the following questions: If Jesus was standing beside us, would He be pleased with the things we say? The music we listen to? The programs we watch on television? The things we read? The activities we engage in? The people we associate with? This could go on and on couldn’t it? I pray that we will find our true joy in Him!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
