LIFE IS SO DAILY! – Hebrews 3:13 Devotional

LIFE IS SO DAILY!

Hebrews 3:13 – Devotional

Hebrews 3:13

“But exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”

There was a little lady who had a sweet spirit in spite of her many ailments. When anyone would ask Minnie how she was feeling she always replied, “Good, but life is so daily!” I am sure that all of us have felt that way from time to time. We might take a step or two forward, but like the old saying, “The hurrier I go, the behinder I get!”

Sometimes as I sit down at the computer to prepare my Daily-E-Votionals, I wonder how many people take the time to read them and if it is a waste of time. It is at these times that I am prone to use that expression of Minnie’s —”Life is so daily!” Then I pray and realize that I am not responsible for other people’s responses, only my actions. The Lord will cause those who have a need to receive what is given. I hope that in itself may be an encouragement for you.

We live in a world that is so preoccupied with numbers that we overlook the one or two whose lives have been changed. By our caring, some may find Jesus as their personal Savior. Life may be “so daily,” but it can also be “so fruitful!”

Our Scripture for today instructs us to encourage each other daily. It will lift our spirits to the heavens and put a song in our heart. It will cause us to rise each morning with a song of praise: “LIFE IS SO DAILY – AND I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO GET AT IT!”

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today and be a blessing!

PRICE OF SIN! – Hebrews 11:24-25 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

PRICE OF SIN!

Hebrews 11:24-25 – Devotional

Hebrews 11:24-25

“By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.”

The pleasures of sin come with a huge price tag. Over the years I have counseled many people who yielded to the siren call of temptation and paid a price that was far more than they expected.

Satan has a deceitful way of making things seem so enticing and appealing that it leads the unwise to indulge. It started in the Garden of Eden when he tempted Adam and Eve to violate the command of God to not eat of the forbidden fruit.

We have no idea what kind of fruit it was, and that really makes no difference. The issue was not the type of fruit, but that God had said that they were not to taste of the fruit. In like manner, the Holy Spirit gives conviction about yielding to certain temptations. When we hear His voice and know it is wrong, we need to run (not walk) away from tempting fruit.

What is the temptation you are encountering? Get away from it as fast as your feet can carry you. If you have already yielded to the temptation, go to the Lord and confess your sin. Turn away from the thing that consumes you and start filling your heart and mind with the living Word of God. God does not want to punish; He wants to forgive the sincere repentant.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

WERE YOU THERE?! – Hebrews 11:1-2 Devotional

WERE YOU THERE?!

Hebrews 11:1-2 – Devotional

Hebrews 11:1-2

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.”

There are so many spiritual songs that have been handed down through the African American culture, that it is hard to count them all. One of them is this week’s focus, “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?”

In the field of criminal investigation, eye witnesses are extremely important. It is very hard to develop a case without having someone observe the event and giving testimony as to what they saw and heard.

In the spiritual realm we are instructed to live by faith. It is not necessary for us to physically be present at the time Jesus was on the cross and rose from the grave. We can observe these events through the eyes of faith. Were you there?

Enjoy this week’s inspiration video.

Moonlight Sonata & Were You There?

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?

Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?

Were you there when God raised Him from the tomb?
Were you there when God raised Him from the tomb?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when God raised Him from the tomb?

AT THE CROSS! – Hebrews 12:2 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

AT THE CROSS!

Hebrews 12:2 – Devotional

Hebrews 12:2

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

This week’s hymn was written over 300 years ago by Isaac Watts. It would be impossible to fully know the number of lives it has touched since he wrote it. One of those lives was the blind hymn writer, Fanny J. Crosby. In the autumn of 1850, revival meetings were being held in the Thirtieth Street Methodist Church in New York City.

Fanny and some of her friends attended each night and she craved for spiritual joy but could not find it. On the evening of November 20, 1850, it seemed to her that the light must indeed come then or never. After a prayer was offered, they began to sing this hymn. When they sang “Here Lord, I give myself away,” her soul was flooded with a celestial light. She realized what her problem had been. She realized that she had been trying to hold the world in one hand and the Lord in the other. She yielded to Him!

AT THE CROSS

1. Alas! and did my Savior bleed, And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head, For sinners such as I?

Refrain: At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

2. Was it for crimes that I had done, He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! grace unknown! And love beyond degree!

Refrain: At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

3. Well might the sun in darkness hide, And shut his glories in,
When Christ, the mighty Maker died, For man the creature’s sin.

Refrain: At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

4. But drops of grief can ne’er repay, The debt of love I owe:
Here, Lord, I give myself away, ‘Tis all that I can do.

Refrain: At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

Are you like Fanny Crosby—looking for joy to fill your soul? Her answer is the answer—Here, Lord, I give myself away, ’Tis all that I can do.

GOD’S LOVING DISCIPLINE! – Hebrews 12:6 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S LOVING DISCIPLINE!

Hebrews 12:6 – Devotional

Hebrews 12:6

“For the LORD disciplines those He loves, and He punishes each one He accepts as His child.”

I did not consider myself to be an abused child even though there were times when it was much easier to stand than to try sitting on my “seat of discipline”—if you get my drift. Let’s face it—my bottom was sore from the spanking. Did the discipline mean my parents did not love me? Not on your life! They loved me enough to not allow me to continue an action that was wrong.

I recall as a Juvenile Probation officer being called to pick up a 15 year old girl that had been arrested and take her home. My wife Joyce and I met the police and had her in the back seat of the car as we drove her home. I mentioned that her dad would no doubt discipline her when she got home. She stunned us with this statement: “My dad doesn’t love enough to discipline me!”

Sometimes God brings His judgment upon those who violate His commands. Does that mean that He does not love us? Not on your life! As a matter of fact it is proof that He loves us enough to discipline. His discipline is proof of His love!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing.

GRUMPY CATS! – Hebrews 13:15 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GRUMPY CATS!

Hebrews 13:15 –  Devotional

Hebrews 13:15

“As a result of our walk with Jesus let us always be known as people who always give Him praise as natural as fruit from the trees!”

If you are able to visit a zoo, you may discover in the feline section of the zoo an exhibit with “Grumpy Cats.” These felines may live up to their name, but the name is given because their facial features make them appear – – GRUMPY!

Unfortunately I have known a few believers who may fit this category. I hope that you are not one who may be described as a “Grumpy Cat Believer!” There should be an aura about us that comes from knowing that our name is written down in glory and we are members of God’s family. Now that should make us smile!

As you face this day and all of the others that God gives us to live, make every effort to look like a happy puppy rather than a grumpy cat. I mean no affront to the cat lovers who read this!

Let the joy of Jesus fill you with an eagerness to share with others that they can turn their sin and strife into joy and gladness. Remember that we are members of God’s family and heaven will be our eternal home.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
