SOLID SPIRITUAL FOOD!

Hebrews 5:12 – Devotional

Hebrews 5:12

“For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

In our “mind’s eye” we may be able to recall the precious moment when one of our children or grandchildren had just tasted their first solid food. It is a milestone in human development that would continue into full adult maturity.

In our family that first taste of solid was always mashed potatoes and gravy. It was almost always the men in the family who performed the sneaky deed. Joyce or my mom would chastise us, but it was always fun and a cherished moment!

It may be humorous to talk about our babies needing their solid food, but all too often many churches have huge congregations of believers who still exist on predigested spiritual food from the pulpit instead of sinking their teeth into something solid by studying their own Bible.

As you honestly evaluate your spiritual life, where do you see yourself? Are you able to dig into the solid meat of God’s word or is it necessary for you to have someone else feed you? It is time for us to grow up and feed on SOLID SPIRITUAL FOOD!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

ENCOURAGEMENT! – Hebrews 3:12-13 Devotional

ENCOURAGEMENT!

Hebrews 3:12-13 – Devotional

Hebrews 3:12-13

“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

I have determined that I have the spiritual gift of exhortation or encouragement. That means that it is natural for me to devote myself to being a cheerleader for those around me who are living for Christ.

When I was in high school I enjoyed playing football. One evening after our practice, several of our players went to the practice field of the large high school in our city. They were a powerhouse in their league, which was many levels higher than ours.

I vividly recall their coach, “Babe” Brown, exhorting his team. One of the players had just failed in a blocking assignment and the ball carrier was tackled. Coach Brown ran along side of the errant blocker and yelled at the top of his lungs, “Son, if you can’t block for him, at least clap your hands and cheer him along!” It was a real putdown.

Spiritually we may not be the person designated to carry the ball. We may have the assignment to clear the way for someone else. The best way to do that is to have a spirit of encouragement. You do not need the spiritual gift of encouragement to be an encourager. Make the way of faith easier for others by cheering them along.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

TELL ME THE STORY OF JESUS! – Hebrews 4:7 Devotional

TELL ME THE STORY OF JESUS!

Hebrews 4:7 – Devotional

Hebrews 4:7

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

What do you believe about Jesus? Are you trusting in Him for your salvation? Is He your Lord and Savior?

Here are lyrics to Tell Me the Story of Jesus (lyrics by Fanny Crosby):

Tell me the story of Jesus,
Write on my heart every word;
Tell me the story most precious,
Sweetest that ever was heard.
Tell how the angels in chorus,
Sang as they welcomed His birth,
“Glory to God in the highest!
Peace and good tidings to earth.”

Refrain:
Tell me the story of Jesus,
Write on my heart every word;
Tell me the story most precious,
Sweetest that ever was heard.

Fasting alone in the desert,
Tell of the days that are past,
How for our sins He was tempted,
Yet was triumphant at last.
Tell of the years of His labor,
Tell of the sorrow He bore;
He was despised and afflicted,
Homeless, rejected and poor.

Tell of the cross where they nailed Him,
Writhing in anguish and pain;
Tell of the grave where they laid Him,
Tell how He liveth again.
Love in that story so tender,
Clearer than ever I see;
Stay, let me weep while you whisper,
“Love paid the ransom for me.”

Tell how He’s gone back to heaven,
Up to the right hand of God:
How He is there interceding
While on this earth we must trod.
Tell of the sweet Holy Spirit
He has poured out from above;
Tell how He’s coming in glory
For all the saints of His love.

JESUS KNOWS OUR PAIN! – Hebrews 4:15 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

JESUS KNOWS OUR PAIN!

Hebrews 4:15 – Devotional

Hebrews 4:15

“For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

I once received a phone call from a dear friend who had his big toe amputated about a year before. He now had a sore developing on the same foot near the area of the amputation and was in fear of losing the entire foot.

It was only a few days earlier that I spoke with another friend who had just lost his wife of 66 years. I lost my Joyce after 62 years of marriage and can feel some of the pangs of pain others are now experiencing.

Try as we might, we can never truly know how others are feeling. Even if we have experienced significant losses in our own life, we cannot begin to know what pain their hearts are feeling as they deal with their own suffering.

But I want to tell you that there is a Savior in heaven who knows what we are feeling. He experienced each and every pang, pain, or sense of loss that we will ever encounter. I am so glad that in the time of our need, we have the assurance that our Lord feels what we feel and more than that! He is able to comfort us with more than mere words — He can heal our hurting heart.

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

PERFECTED FOREVER! – Hebrews 10:14 Devotional

PERFECTED FOREVER!

Hebrews 10:14 – Devotional

Hebrews 10:14

“For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

Do you remember those children’s stories that always ended with “And they lived happily ever after”? Then we got older and realized that those stories were merely fairy tales and that it is impossible to live happily ever after. Right? Wrong!

We serve a Lord and Savior who promises us the most spectacular “ever after” that could ever be imagined. Sometimes in Scripture we are given glimpses into that wonderful eternity that God has prepared for those who choose Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

In those children’s fables that we read here on earth there is a place where all of the problems and trials are ended and everything in the future is going to be perfect. We know that is just not true. We live in the reality of a sin-wrecked world that is filled with suffering and strife.

Let me quickly offer the hope that we find in the Bible: This world is not our eternal home — we are here for such a brief time that it is hard to measure in Eternity Standard Time. There will be a HAPPILY EVER AFTER for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. I want to live HAPPILY EVER AFTER!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

FAITH’S GATE! – Hebrews 11:1 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

FAITH’S GATE!

Hebrews 11:1 – Devotional

Hebrews 11:1

“Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

We once lived in a gated community that required using a remote control device to open the gate. It was designed to prevent unauthorized persons from entering. We could open the gate only by using the right code for the gate.

Faith is the gate that leads us from our poverty and need to the certainty of God’s unlimited power. Reading Hebrews 11 is like walking through God’s hall of fame. We observe the faithful men and women who trusted Him with their all. These heroes of the faith saw something that was more important than life itself.

Down through the ages of history—even to our present day—there are men and women who have placed their reliance on things which are seen only through faith in God. In many cases believers have endured pain, torture, even death, knowing that eternal bliss waited just beyond their final breath.

Songwriter Oscar Eliason wrote, “God specializes in things thought impossible, and He can do what no other power can do.” No matter how difficult the circumstances, we can trust God to open the gate in His time and for His purposes. When He does, we can go forward by faith.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
