SOARING WITH THE LORD! – Deuteronomy 32:11-12 Devotional

Deuteronomy 32:11-12

“As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, So the Lord alone led him, and there was no foreign god with him.”

The eagle is a symbol used many times in Scripture. It is mentioned 38 times throughout the Bible. We can learn some important lessons from this majestic creation of God.

Moses reminds us how God cares for us just like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young. The eagle parent spreads its wings to catch their eaglets and carries them on its pinions. In Exodus 19:4 God says that “He will carry the children of Israel on eagles’ wings.”

Eagles do not fly like other birds. They don’t flap their wings but rather soar. When the time is right, they take off and soar upward because they have waited for the right time.

Like the eagle we need to carefully watch for God’s thermals for our life and allow Him to lift us up and let us soar to places He has prepared for us. As we yield to His care for us we will soar higher than we could never imagine!

THIS IS NOT THE END! – Deuteronomy 30:19 Devotional

Deuteronomy 30:19

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

It seems as if this recurring theme arises on a regular basis. At least it does in my time of study in the Word of the Lord. When I search for the answer to why it arises time after time, I come to the conclusion that it is because people so often choose to reject God’s offer of eternal life.

Every day our newspapers or other forms of media announce the death of rich and famous people as well as those who have virtually no family or friends. It is important to remind ourselves that this life is not the end. It is the one and only time and place to determine where we will spend eternity.

One millisecond after we draw our final breath, we will either breathe pure celestial air of our eternal abode, or the acrid stench of eternal suffering and torment. Here and now is our only time and place to determine which place will be our eternal destiny. CHOOSE LIFE!

PLAN FOR THE FUTURE! – Deuteronomy 32:11 Devotional

Deuteronomy 32:11

As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings.

Yesterday I reminded us that it is the Lord’s strength that is given to us at just the time we need it. Today I want to remind us of His protection for us. In the animal kingdom the parents of an offspring seem to treat their young harshly. It actually is done in order to prepare them to eventually cope on their own.

God never intends for us to remain spiritual babies. He desires for us to become mature and reproduce in others the saving life of Christ which dwells within those of us who have been born again.

Remember that God never intends for us to remain spiritual babies. We are called to grow strong in the Lord and produce spiritual children who will in turn do the same as they become spiritually mature.

The question we need to continually ask ourselves is; “Am I reproducing the life of Jesus in those that look to me for spiritual nourishment?” If not we need to seek a deeper and more meaningful PLAN FOR THE FUTURE!

CHOOSE LIFE! – Deuteronomy 30:19 Devotional

Deuteronomy 30:19

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

Over the years we have been subjected to advertising blitzes that promised life. If we would purchase what they were selling we would, in essence, receive life. It was almost like the children’s program offers that mimicked adult objects would deliver real life replicas.

In the adult world there is even more advertising campaigns that promise life and happiness. The sad reality is that often those who promote these products often are the most miserable and needy people. Their own products fail to give them the life they portend to deliver  – – for a price!

Moses shouts out across the ages of time the truth in today’s passage. This is the true and faithful life that is everlasting. This is the life that lives in the flames of suffering and adversity.

I thank God that those of us who have received Jesus Christ as our personal Savior have passed from death to life. When the Lord dispatches His angels to escort us to paradise we will already have received eternal life! Thank you Lord!

ETERNAL SATISFACTION! – Deuteronomy 8:3 Devotional

Deuteronomy 8:3

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

We all have heard about what the world needs, and as we listen closer we discover that what is proposed is nothing but froth. By that I mean that there is a great deal of puffing and little substance. In the sales world it is an all too common practice.

I fear that in Christian circles it is also far too common a practice. Many individuals and organizations puff up the gospel as if it was not able to sustain itself without them adding something extra. That is tragic!

Moses is reminding his readers that God was the One who sustained them with food that came directly from the hand of God. I guess we might call it the original “angel food cakes.” It was God’s provision for man’s needs!

Today we receive spiritual food from the throne of God’s grace through the Bible. I pray that your own personal Bible is well worn with use. Not only did God feed His people during the exodus from Egypt, He feeds us spiritual food today!

PURPOSE OF REVELATION! – Deuteronomy 29:29 Devotional

Deuteronomy 29:29

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

I fondly recall days spent in Shreveport, LA when I was stationed there with the US Air Force. The military had assigned me there, but God had placed me there to sit under the spiritual guidance of two men: Jack Dedman and Dr. John Hall.

Many hours were spent together as we searched God’s Word and listened to sermon tapes (that was in the days of the reel to reel tapes). The technology may have been dated by today’s standards, but the messages were timeless.

God had used these two men of God to use books and tapes (as well as their own studies) to flesh out the truth of God’s word. My wife Joyce and I would relish the time spent in the homes of the Dedmans and Halls.

The reason we were moved by the instruction of these two men was that they followed the instruction of today’s passage. They studied the WORD and then revealed what they learned to others. May we do the same!
