HIDING IN THEE! – Psalm 91:4 Devotional

HIDING IN THEE!

Psalm 91:4 – Devotional

Psalm 91:4

“He will cover you with his feathers.
Under his wings you will take refuge.
His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I once read about a forest service worker who was walking through an area that had just been ravaged by a forest fire. He saw a strange mound and stopped to check it out. To his astonishment it was a mother bird that had been killed by the fire. As he knelt to examine the bird, he heard a peep from under the pile of ashes. When he turned the bird over he found several chicks.

Instead of flying to save herself, the mother had sacrificed herself in order to protect her brood from the fire that was sweeping toward them. That is what Jesus has done for us. He wants to shelter us under His wings from the firestorm of life.

Ira Sankey was a singer and song writer who ministered alongside evangelist D. L. Moody. He had experienced an extended time of trial and tears in his own personal life. It was during this time of agonizing prayer that the song Hiding In Thee was born. I am so thankful that the Lord heard and answered his prayer. It has ministered to many people across the years.

About twenty years after Sankey wrote his beautiful piece, Sergei Rachmaninoff was experiencing many problems in his life. He had a mental block, could not write, and felt useless. After several years of emptiness he broke out of his doldrums and composed his Second Piano Concerto. It is a joy to feature a blending of both works this week.

HIDING IN THEE!

O safe to the Rock that is higher than I,
My soul in its conflicts and sorrows would fly;
So sinful, so weary, Thine, Thine, would I be;
Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee.

Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee,
Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee.

In the calm of the noontide, in sorrow’s lone hour,
In times when temptation casts o’er me its power,
In the tempests of life, on its wide, heaving sea,
Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee.

Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee,
Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee.

How oft in the conflict, when pressed by the foe,
I have fled to my refuge and breathed out my woe;
How often, when trials like sea billows roll,
Have I hidden in Thee, O Thou Rock of my soul.

Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee,
Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee.

GOD’S PERFECT TIME! – Ecclesiastes 3:1 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

GOD’S PERFECT TIME!

Ecclesiastes 3:1 – Devotional

Ecclesiastes 3:1

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”

Schedules are extremely important. If you have ever been the parent of a newborn, you will quickly understand the necessity of a schedule. The whole world of public transportation relies on accurate schedules. The International Space Station (ISS) silently glides across the heavens over 200 miles above the earth.

Across the years I have viewed the ISS hundreds of times as it passed overhead. Some of the passes occur during the dark hours and it is possible to see the Space Station as a very bright star. In some instances, the Station passes into the earth’s shadow and seems to disappear.

Day after day I know that the ISS is making its way around the earth. It may be cloudy or the sun may prevent our viewing it as it passes over head, but I always know that it is keeping perfect time.

To us it may seem as if the Lord is late in answering our prayers. We focus on our own desires rather than waiting on the Lord to bring about His will. At all times we need to remind ourselves that the Lord’s time is always PERFECT TIME!

BLESS THE LORD ALWAYS! – Psalm 34:1 Devotional

Hear Pastor Cecil read today's Evotional

BLESS THE LORD ALWAYS!

Psalm 34:1 – Devotional

Psalm 34:1

“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

We should always be a BLESSING PEOPLE! Honestly I have been around some people who drain the life and vitality out of anyone they are in contact with.

What does it mean to always bless the Lord? I think it means to leave people feeling better because they have been with us. Blessing the Lord for all things is what we are to do. Doing it consistently is what we are to be.

We live in a hurting world. Trouble and strife are all around us and it seems to be getting worse all the time. If ever there was a time when people need a blessing from the Lord, it is now. The people of God are the ones who should at all times and in every situation be a BLESSING PEOPLE.

How would you describe yourself? Let me rephrase that. How would other people describe you? Are you a BLESSING PERSON? Do you leave a trail of people that have been blessed after spending time with you? The Scripture says we are to bless the Lord at all times and praise is to be continually in our mouth. Can that honestly be said about you? Strive to always be one who can be described as a Blessing person. Encourage and bless as many people as possible today!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
