PR-I-DE!

1 John 2:15-16 – Devotional

1 John 2:15-16

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

Pride has been the prevalent sin of all mankind since the Garden of Eden. We might even predate it earlier than the creation of Adam and Eve. Satan was consumed with a spirit of pride and desired to be high and lifted up to a position of divinity. He tempted Eve in the Garden by causing her to believe that the reason she and Adam were not allowed to eat from the Tree of Good and Evil was that they would become like God.

Years ago I heard the story of a pastor who announced to his congregation that he would be starting a series on pride and a call to true humility. After the first sermon in the series he was met at the door by a little lady who was so pleased with his new series. She told her pastor that she did not have many gifts or talents, but she was very PROUD of her humility. It made him want to cry.

When we stop to analyze the situation, most of us are very preoccupied with ourselves. Our chief aim is to satisfy ourselves. Even when offering a helping hand to someone else we want to make sure that we get credit for it. In other words, it is all about our own personal pride, the battleground of humanity.

Paul urges us to get our eyes off of the worldly and focus on the spiritual. Our goal should be always to inquire of the Lord what He is leading us to accomplish. We also need to keep our eyes open to see where He is at work around us and then making sure that we join in His program.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

BE A DOER OF GOD’S WORD! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

BE A DOER OF GOD’S WORD!

James 1:22 – Devotional

James 1:22

“Be doers of God’s Word, and not simply hearers, deceiving yourselves.

It is easy to be caught up in the emotion of the moment after reading a moving passage of Scripture or listening to a powerful sermon. The fact of the matter is that it is not what we feel that matters, but what actions we take!

In my dim and distant past I seem to recall reading the phrase; “I would rather see a good sermon rather than simply hear one!” I am sure that I have not remembered the statement exactly, but it is something like that.

The gist of what James is saying in today’s verse, is that God calls us to go far beyond simply hearing or reading the Word of God, we are to take action as a result of what it says and DO IT!

That brings us to a provoking question. In what way are we consistently being a doer of the Word of God? Ask God to allow His Word to come alive and spur you become a doer of the Word and not just a hearer.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD IS SPEAKING-LISTEN! – Psalm 29:4 Devotional

GOD IS SPEAKING-LISTEN!

Psalm 29:4 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

It is amazing that we live in a world where sound is so important—yet there are so many who fail to hear the most important message on earth. It is not because His voice is soft and quiet, which it can be; but our Scripture for today indicates that it is mighty and powerful. The reason that we do not hear the voice of God is because we do not choose to hear Him.

A young man who had spent his life in the wilderness visited a friend in a large metropolitan city. The streets were filled with the racket of cars, buses, trains, voices—any and all types of noise. He suddenly stopped and asked his friend to listen. Utterly confused, the friend wondered what he was supposed to be listening for. “A cricket,” he was told. Walking toward the curb, the visitor bent over and pointed. There, amidst all of the world’s clamor, perched a small black cricket.

Because his ears knew what to listen for, and the sound was different from all of the distracting noises of the city, the visitor could hear the tiny cricket. In that same manner, we can hear the voice of the Lord in our life … but only when we have a willingness to listen.

We read here in Psalm 29:4 that the voice of God is louder than all of the noise-producing events we may encounter (rapids, floods, waves, fires, winds, etc). That assures us that the Lord makes Himself heard above any “storm” we may be passing through. God is speaking – Listen.

May God richly bless others by your words and actions!

ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT! – Isaiah 41:10 Devotional

ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness.”

One of the very first verses I ever memorized was Isaiah 41:10. You will notice that I have included both the New International Version and the King James Version. As a young boy I had the words in my mind, but I had to live many more years before I truly understood the beautiful truth of the words.

Many of us live with fear and/or depression in our lives. While those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ have reason to be fearful and dismayed, the believer has a source of peace and joy that overcomes the circumstances of life.

At this very moment you may feel that you are at the lowest point of your life. The pressures have been building to such an extent that you feel like there is no hope for you. I want to assure you on the authority of the Word of God that there is more than hope . . . there is certainty!

What assurance does Isaiah 41:10 give us? First of all He tells us not to be fearful because He is with us. His presence should remove the fear from our heart. Not only that, He promises to remove our despair by giving us His strength, His help and holding us up with His mighty right arm. Adjust your attitude dear believer. Our victory comes from the One who has already won the victory for us on the cross.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
